We enjoyed a lovely dinner our first night in Paris at Bouillon Racine. We had been in the area earlier in the day, but had just a tad of confusion locating the correct street in the gathering dark. No matter, thanks to the wonderful speed of the RER trip from our hotel we were still a few minutes early for our reservation.
I see this restaurant is only at #2294 on TripAdvisor, but I really think it deserves a much higher spot. Though perhaps just as well. We were likely the only persons for whom French was not the first language on our visit. We were very happy we'd made reservations quite early for our visit, as the place was packed the whole evening and still going strong when we left around 9:45 PM.
We had a really lovely dinner, and our waitress was exceedingly kind and understanding to endure my poor French and speak English with my non-French-speaking spouse. We were seated in the upstairs to the far right from the stairs. We were quite amused to find late in the evening there is often a show with dinner in one of the windows across the way. I noticed because my husband kept snapping photos and I couldn't figure out why he was not pointing the camera at our food or me. Eventually determined he was taking pictures of something he was seeing in the mirror off my right shoulder and finally looked out the window just in time to see the end of the evening's performance. Here is a photo my darling spouse snapped the moment the flash went off in my head, as he is fond of telling friends.
. Oops!
Though the entertainment was amusing and the setting nothing short of magnificent, it was the food which most impressed. I was especially pleased with the escargot we had to share. It was so tender and lovely, we almost ordered a second. So happy we did not, as we very much enjoyed our meal and barely had room left for a bit of the excellent cheese presented at the end upon my dear husband's request. This is one resto we've definitely bookmarked for another visit next time we're in town.
