I've always wanted to visit the fairgrounds museum and it was open during journées du patrimonie. It was the only place I went that weekend that had an entrance fee. I think it was €8 which included one ride, and you could buy tickets for additional rides.
There was a sign that talked about how in their heyday these carnivals or fairs were big attractions. There was no TV, so people loved to gather to socialize.
The crowd was mostly families with small kids. I think there were 6 or 7 rides most of which were some form of carousel. Also some arcade games and a few acts.
These ladies greeted visitors as they entered.
A storyteller that kept the kids enthralled.
A magician that drew a large crowd.
With some scary characters in the audience.
Outside this duo was singing and playing the organ grinder. His arm must have gotten very tired.
Chandeliers in the trees.
A workshop where you can watch the restoration work.
It was an interesting place. I'm glad I went, but next time I'd want to go with small kids to see it through their eyes.
