So after noonish flight from Milan on Easy Jet..arrive at CDG. Slow going to City as it had been raining all day...pilot did say it was supposed to clear for evening.
Hotel in the 7th..I spotted a spot on Rue Saint Peres on way and we were able to secure wine and water for room..so much easier than in Milan! Checked in and stayed put..finally totally unpacked(didn't bother for 2 nites in Milan), until it was time to do to dinner..and indeed rained stopped! (dinner info in Food thread)
Didn't stop for long, raining next am so late start for Petit Dej at local café..tartines and café crème. Wanted to check out the Pagoda theatre on Rue Babylon..cute, little garden to the side with a couple of tables and chairs..nice place to catch a film if you were in hood for awhile.
Headed window shopping to Montparnasse...wanted to see if the store in Mall had a navy ring..to go with the red and white B'day ones...NO. Oh well. Cool and rainy..could have used gloves! and this after using sunscreen in Milan! Got window seats at Nemrod and watched the rain, Sat shoppers and had a cool day lunch...saucisses et aligote, Brouilly, and espresso.
Picked up pharmacy and some grocery items, wandered and back to hotel to get ready for diner at Allard...slow day after Milan sightseeing!
Sunday raining again so after PD at another local café, Orsay for Gustav Dore exhibition. Really enjoyed...he was illustrating book, Bible, Inferno, Dickens, and others in 1800's. They showed a film where his illustrations were used as the prototyes for movies from very early films, to the 10 Commandments(his drawing of Moses looks exactly like C.Heston in film does after talking to bush!) and most Biblical films to Star Wars and Harry Potter!
After Museum stopped to get out of rain at Le Fregate and have pre lunch aperafif and enjoy view of Seine.
Headed toward Marais and stopped a Café Loius Phillip..a fav..for Sunday lunch..kind of feels like going to Grandmere's , good basic food. Had Leg of Lamb special avec thym sauce, potato gratin, and roasted tomato, onion, zucchini fanned together. , RW, and chaud apple tart with cinnamon glace, espresso..delicious!
Then to Rue Fourcy photo muse, interesting shows, esp.Martin Parr's mostly humorous ones of current Paris..a photo of all those folks taking photos of Mona Lisa! Another of Mick Jagger throwing a cup at photog taking phot of him. Wander and back to hotel. Dinner at the dssappointing Le Petite Chaise.
