<<<<<<<Annette - If you go to La Cuisine de Philippe, please jot down (or photograph)the menu items. I'm seriously considering this place, but I'd like to see all the options (for my husband, who's fussier than I am).>>>>>>>>>>>>> Shoesy, I went to La Cuisine de Philippe for lunch in October and enjoyed my meal. If I remember correctly there were 3 of 4 menu choices for each course, plus 1 or 2 specials. I had a goat cheese and courgette soufflé for an appetizer. The main course was blanquette de beau which was on the menu and was bland. For dessert I had a chocolate soufflé that may just be the best thing I've ever eaten. A friend advised me to make a reservation, so I did while I was at the hair salon, trying not to get dye on my phone. Turns out they weren't that busy, but my friends said people were turned away when they were there. With all that rich food and 2 glasses of wine, I walked around in a bit of a haze afterward.

Thanks so much for your reply, Janet. It seems like there aren't enough choices for Shlomo. Of course it really depends on what the options are. Hmmm.......I may have to rethink that one.

I'll let you know what I find out Shoesy--I can be a bit of a "fussy" eater myself

You're a fussy eater, Annette? Interesting! In any case, I'm curious to hear your opinion.......if you end up going there, of course.

I'm sure not fussy when it comes to dessert! But meat is another story... No fish, game or innards, just beef, pork or chicken, please In France that usually leaves me just 1 (occasionally 2) choice on most menus. Makes me feel like a *really picky* eater! Oh, and then there's mushrooms, which I do eat but would rather not...

And I know you do...I enjoy most...and yes there are things I'll eat as amuse bouche or on tasting menu that I wouldn't usually order..rabbit, snails, tongue...,....no brains or tripe please..or heads and feet..well maybe pig foot..off the bone please!

I know, I know! I hate it! I will do pate, weirdly enough, if there's bread and oignon confit or something to go with it, and I can handle a bit of foie gras. Just don't plop a big slice of liver or kidney on my plate . I did have pigs feet at Au Piet de Cochon once. What meat I could pick out amongst all the fat was good. There was very little meat tho--saying 2 oz. would be stretch--and all the rest was fat. I wasn't expecting that! The skinny French lady next to me licked the bones clean, much to our amusement...but I could not down all that fat! Not because of my finicky taste buds, but my arteries!

I know what you mean..I find myself trimming the fat off of ham in salads there! Not that I'm such a "healthy" eater but visible fat?! My Mother used to talk about back in the day they had jars of pickled pigs feet and hard boiled eggs on bars! Can you imagine with our health regulations..pickled ? not good enough..fridge only please! When I went to P de C years ago had the famous onion soup..but couldn't do the foot..one of these days...then again you make it sound so appealing?

I ate at P de C last fall. Had the pork cheeks, which were good but not nearly as good as the beef cheeks at Sassotondo (a few doors down from Astier). Still haven't tried pigs feet, but they're on my list. I try something new every trip. This time it was pork & beef cheeks and gesier, and I liked both.

Annette - I'm still surprised about your statement regarding mushrooms. My son and DIL refuse to eat them, but I thought they were the only ones in the whole world who didn't like them. I guess I was wrong about that.

Janet--Is Sassotondo worth a trek across town for?? The beef cheeks sound yummy. I have no problem with beef cheeks--it's just muscle, same as a steak, in my mind! Shoesy, I think mushrooms is a common "dislike", at least in my neck of the woods. Obviously not in other parts of the world, or they wouldn't be in half the dishes in Paris! Well, half the non-fish, non-duck, non-lamb, non-offal dishes anyway I'm not complaining--I eat quite well in Paris and there's not a waiter there who suspects I'm picky

Annette, the beef cheeks were fabulous. It was the best main course I had on my trip. I don't recall much about the rest of the meal, except that they had a very small wine list. The cheapest bottle was €29 and they were out of it, so we got the next cheapest which was €39, which we felt was too much to spend in a casual restaurant. We enjoyed our meal but felt a bit ripped off on the wine. I think they change their menu fairly frequently and I didn't see it posted on their website, so you'd have to call to see if they're serving it. I would cross town for those beef cheeks. Astier and Jeanne A were listed at the bottom of their website, so I guess they're related. I went to Astier too and we were underwhelmed. Nothing wrong in particular, but weren't really impressed with anything either.

I guess I was wrong about that. Unless they are chopped up in a strong sauce, I pick out the mushrooms and give them to my wife. I am part of the do-not-like group. And I have been a semi-vegetarian for decades--I eat nothing that had four legs and only the mild, fleshy types of fish plus shrimp/scallops, and of course poulet--and thus find at most a few choices on the typical French carte. I love France, adore Paris, but prefer "ethnic" restaurants of the other-than-French variety. Fortunately they are numerous in Paris.

Never met a mushroom I didn't like..starting with the cans of B&Bs from when I was a kid..Dad would get on his steak when we were eating hamburgers! Sisters and I would get one.
I just added A La Petite Chaise in the 7th to my restaurant list...supposed to be one of oldest!

La Cuisine has become one of my favorites in that area. The hosts are lovely and the souffles are fantastic.
I just referred back to my trip notes and can tell you some of what was on the menu last May. We shared a deliciously light & fluffy mushroom souffle entree. For mains, I had langoustine ravioli in a lovely sauce & served with veggies and my friend had Onglet with potatoes. We shared a salted caramel souffle for dessert which was heavenly.
A few others on my list for my May trip are Come a Casa, Bones & Le Mary Celeste. I may have to add Chez Gladines now as well. Looking forward to hearing about your culinary adventures Annette!
