Darryl and I are heading to Paris in March, and I'm curious as to what restaurants are at the top of your "to do" lists for your next visit? We will revisit some of our favorites, but working their way to the top of our list are La Cuisine de Philippe, Chez Gladines, Chez Lena et Mimile (been on the list forever!), Au 35, L'Ourcine, Variations...

Annette, At the top of our restaurant list is Josephine Chez Dumonet. It's one we've wanted to go to for the last two trips but just didn't get there. We both love Confit de Canard, and I'm told they have the best! I also want to go to l'Ambassade d'Auvergne to try Saucisse and Aligot. The rest will probably be old favorites like Rotisserie du Beaujolais, Bistro de Breteuille -- think there's been a name change, though -- Perraudin, and Brasserie Balzar. We will probably go back to Chartier...as I'd read, the food wasn't amazing, but it was fine, and we had the best time there, talking to a British grandfather. We talked about our grandkids, he talked about his, he talked about American television, and we talked about British television :-) It's also well located for The Mogador, where we'll be seeing Le Belle et le Bete (Beauty and the Beast).

Annette, I've been looking at Chez Gladines, the one in the 13th. Is that the one on your list? It interests me because we have never been to the 13th arrondissement, in all the times we've been to Paris. I'd like to go there this trip. Always nice to know of a good restaurant for lunch :-)

You'll enjoy Josephine Chez Dumonet, Sandy. I've been there 3 times and always enjoy it. Rotisserie du Beaujolais has been on my list forever, but we haven't been there yet. Nice to read it's one of your favorite standby's. The Chez Gladines in the 13th has been on my list for a long, long time but we've never made a point of going for dinner, nor have we been in the neighborhood for lunch. I didn't know they had one on Bl. St. Germain tho, and that's the one we'll probably try this trip since it's not far from our apartment. We usually walk down to Anahuicalli once each trip, which is right around the corner from Chez Gladines. Don't know why I never noticed it was there before! I'm jealous to hear about your seeing Le Belle et le Bete I tried to talk hubby into going back in October, but he had no interest...

We had two dinners at Chez Dumonet this trip which makes about 6 or 7 times we have eaten there. Usually I have the duck confit and it is the best. However, this trip I had the beef burgundy which is the best ever. just melted in my mouth. Also wonderful souffle. Reservations a must. We also ate three times at Bistro Rousseau also near St. Placide. Great Basque specialities along with the bistro menu. New Year's Eve we ate at La Marlotte also just off St. Placide. Would recommend all three places.

We've just planned a May trip to Paris, and I've been thinking about a dinner cruise on Le Calife. It gets really good reviews. Have any of you done it?

SG..do go to d'Ambassade d'Auvergne..it was my first and best aligote experience! Great dish most places but you get the full effect there and a preponderance of food! Holger we wandered in to Rousseau once when we were planning on just trying to get into Josephine for lunch but they weren't open yet at a bit after 12 so we passed Rousseau, went in and were pleasantly surprised. The other, Marlotte, will go on my list! Just checking fares for April after Easter.....

The fish soup at Rousseau is wonderful and they do baked mussels under a cheese sauce in a pan very similar to the pans for escargot. They are the small mussels that I prefer and can rarely find in the States. The Basque specialities were great but several other dishes looked good as well. They are also open on weekend and early to late. Finn had some great looking rib lamb chops the night before we flew back here but my cap was getting loose soI stayed with the other dishes. He said they were tender and well prepared. We shared some crepes for dessert. La Marlotte is a family style restaurant recommended by the owner of our apartment. Enjoyed the fish dishes and the ambiance.
I still love the food at Chez Dumonet but miss some of the previous staff. the staff at the other two places were much friendlier. Reservations for dinner are a must and probably for lunch.
At this point it is likely to be two years before we return as Scandinavia is apt to be next year. And either U.S. river cruising and/or Shaw Festival this year.
Shoesy, have a great trip. But you will need to trek to Montmartre to go to what is left of Defense D'Afficher and call first as they have to open up a loft above a good souvenir shop with small French items.

Annette, glad to know you enjoy Chez Dumonet! Yes, Rotisserie du Beaujolais is one we always go to. One year, we went to London and took a day trip to Paris, and we chose Rotisserie du Beaujolais for lunch.

Annette - If you go to La Cuisine de Philippe, please jot down (or photograph)the menu items. I'm seriously considering this place, but I'd like to see all the options (for my husband, who's fussier than I am).
