I just watched the film about her starring Kirsten Dunst. It makes me more curious about Marie Antoinette. Does anyone have recommendations for books about her?
Thanks!

Yes! "Trianon" by Elena Maria Vidal; "To Dance with Kings" by Rosalind Laker (not about her, but she's in it and you get a feel for palace life); "Madame Tussaud" by Michelle Moran (another not about her, but she's in it); I also recommend the Josephine trilogy by Sandra Gulland--Josephine and Marie Antoinette's lives overlapped and you get a good feel for the revolution.

Not specifically about her but "Citizens" Simon Scama gives a good comprehensive view of the whole period. Then there is the book on which the movie is based sort of "Versailles"Kathryn Davis and "Marie Antoinettte" by Antonia Frasier.I've had a few Marie moments....

Hi Janet. In case you are still looking, check out Juliet Grey's trilogy on Marie. I also second Annette's rec of the Josephine trilogy.

Ooh that is going on my list for May for sure! I haven't been keeping up with what is on in Paris since I had to cancel my January trip but I have just confirmed my dates for May and am now off to plan!

Darryl and I went to the Josephine exhibit Sunday night and we both enjoyed it very much. There are a couple of her dresses with long trains, one embroidered in silver, and many of her personal things. Her toiletry case was interesting. Many lovely paintings. Do get the audio guide in English, but there is also a pamphlet printed in English that has much of the same information. I've seen long lines at this museum for other exhibits, but we walked right in. I don't know if it was the time and day (2 hours before close on a Sunday evening), or if it is just not as popular as other exhibits have been. We thought it was nicely done. I'll try to post some pictures when we get home.
