A friend of mine visited the Eugène Atget exhibit at the Bibliothèque Nationale on rue de Richelieu and he insisted that anyone would is a Paris lover must see it before it closed on July 1st.
This is the first Atget exhibit in France and the visitor will discover fascinating photographs of old Paris just when the subway and after Hausmann where changing it. Atget is often referred to as an archeologist photograph who succeed in illustrating the life and urban fabric of his time.
The exhibit is title: La modernité dans l’archaïsme RETROSPECTIVE EUGENE ATGET A LA BIBLIOTHEQUE NATIONALE RICHELIEU, 58 rue de Richelieu, IIème.

I wish I was going to be in Paris before July 1st!!! I love black and white photography and have a small book of Atget photos. The Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson is on my list ... is that a permanent collection of his photography on display? Or, where would a B/W photography lover go to get a great fix?!

I adore this type of historical photography. Its such a peek into the past. I especially love the "inside of the house" pictures". I feel like a peeping Tom! Its fun to see how they lived ,worked and decorated their homes.

luckyluc -
I am very pleased about your contribution on Eugene Atget. After two years of photographing Paris in B&W infrared, I discovered Atget and he has been my mentor for the last 3 years (even though he died in 1927). I was amazed that my style is parallel in many ways to his. I sit here in my office with four books of his work on the shelf and looking at a framed 24x30 poster of Staircase, Monmartre from the series L'Art dans le Vieux Paris. I can't recommend more highly his work and hope that anyone visiting Paris while Atget is on exhibition will take it in. The book on my work is coming along and some of the images to be included can be found on my blog.
Thanks again,
Randy
