After the long marathon lunch at Grand Vefour , much cooler out, so back to hotel to make some wardrobe adjustments and head to Swan Lake !
South African(!) choreographer, narration of first part in English! Explanation, take off on London Times piece, that all ballets are variations of Swan Lake, then demo of that..very amusing!
Then this version..a mixture of ballet and African dances, black swans are guys..Prince is comflicted btw white..a girl, and black, a dude...Queen wondering what the neighbors will say! Avant Garde indeed and very entertaining!
Walk back to Marais afterwards..wander, wine and paninis...
Cool and overcast again on B'day so after simple PD at Paul(petite suisses and café crème},...wander arcades on Champs...still hunting that present! About that..had noticed in jewelry store windows...SOMEWHERE!!..on previous trips..."first diamonds" or "starter diamonds" little diamonds in colored rings....decided I waned a red one, blue one, and white for significant B'day...better start already! Of course now can't find any where!
After great meal @ Rech ( restaurant reviews in that section!) head to Harley-Davidson store on Grand Armee ....down another steep iron spiral staircase to Tee shirts! Get shirt for co-worker..in HD bag, S/O quips now he's walking around Paris, the 16th no less, with a biker chick as we head to Mona Bismark and Little Black Dress expo! Also black gowns and jump suits. Liked a Valentino and Lanvin best..and realized I really don't have a LBD at the moment...well one that fits! a couple haven't been able to part with though gave one, that fit, to neice who loved it last Thanksgiving..realized I had not worn it since her wedding..over 10 yrs before!
Picked up some groceries, pharmacy stuff(oh those getting older creams!), and Champagne.on way back.
Out later for Champagne, oysters and other little nibbles . restaurants sparse due to Yom Kippur..just like NYC! ..Grerat end to B'day..and a stroll again around Pl des Vosges!
After another simple PD at café, croissants, café crèmes, oj, wander all over 5th, 6th, and 7th, looking for gift...finally memory flashback to store down a little flt of steps on Rue de Four..not in window, go in ask...oh yes, I don't have here any longer but we have at other store at Montparnasse! In the GL mall...ah ha! No time now..lunch at Benoit..but on agenda for tomorrow! Also shows me a similar bracelet..different company but same concept....hummmm...
After lunch at Benoit...rest period and off to Opera en plein air..plain WET air! Says on esplanades of Invalides..actually in Courtyard of Military Musee...stage, seating, bleachers set up..musicians covered by a roof..no one else! Bust of Napoleon looking down..interesting light effects on walls, golden dome of Tomb above..... The Magic Flute....starts to sprinkle right after start...not bad.put up hood of rain jacket,.rain picking up..some folks heading under arcade on sides..finally stop a bit before intermission as singers are slipping!
More people heading to arcades as it starts to pour! thunder, lightening! we head to tents we spied on way in, running late so didn't stop, ah haa..selling champagne, heat lamps, bouncy couches! Get demi and while away raindelay ! SOme folks heading for exits, but rain stops and we resume.....great voices and the dramatic effect of setting..real pigeons having their rest disturbed by fake ones in cage!...a soggy but pleasant evening! Late due to rain delay so to Metro and home!
PS...new HP laptop purchased yesterday..getting used to Windows 8 ! and everything else!
