This year's outdoor Opera is going to be the Barber of Seville. Last year we saw The Enchanted Flute at Sceaux and it was grand! This year I am hoping to score some tickets for the show at the Senat. It will be at Vaux in Sept. I'd wait for that, if you'd be here to join us, Irish! www.akouna.com/le-barbier-de-seville/

Phread, What and where is the information on the performances in September? Are there day and evening performances? We will be in Paris from the 12th till the 19th and as my husband is an opera buff, he might love to go to a performance. I am less of a fan but could enjoy it more in an outdoor setting. Thanks.

Holger, The website is www.operaenpleinair.com. The only performances in September are on the 6, 7, 8, 9 at Chateau Vaux le Vicomte. Each year, a single production is mounted and performed at the Jardin du Sénat in Paris, and then at various chateaux or historic towns throughout France. This year, they're doing it at Chateau Champs du Bataille (which I'd loooove to see), but we won't be around early in the summer.

Truffaut, I realized that there was a link after I sent the earlier message. We will be in Provence on the 6,7 and 8th and Lyon on the 9th and 10th, heading back to Paris on the 11th. Guess we will just have to plan better for a future trip Thanks.

Hi all --
Can anyone offer a web site for opera, ballet, what have you, tickets? I have often thought that since our French is not nearly good enough for live theater, those would be events we could enjoy (we rarely stay in hotels, and never ones large enough to have a full time concierge, so we're pretty much on our own for arranging things like that during a visit). Ideas?
Thanks.
Becky

Bonjour Becky,
Together with Gittek's excellent recommendations, don't forget that you don't known to buy advance ticket for most of the church concert. Tickets at the door will cost somewhere between 8 to 15 Euros. If you check the list in the weekly publication called Pariscope you can plan quite a few interesting evening. And on top of that see some lesser know churchs.
Now it will not be internationally know artist, but the level is always good. Bon concert.

Thanks so much for all the tips -- we have done concerts at St Chappelle (wonderful at summer solstice with the late sun coming through the windows) but did not know about St Denis, etc., and did not know where to look for tickets. Thanks again!

You can get a copy of Pariscope at any newstand. I believe it's published on Wednesdays.
