We've had several new members in the last weeks who - thankfully - haven't posted spam comments, but their profiles include a link to websites. I haven't click on the links, but the websites appear to be advertising.
Maybe they're genuinely interested in the forum and Paris, but it seems strange to have so many new members with personal websites. Especially with member names like Billy Idol.
Can we do anything to stop this? Perhaps new member requests could be reviewed before they're added? Realize this takes extra administrative work. I'm willing to help do this. I just hate that "our" website is becoming a conduit for spam advertising.

Enrique Hank! I don't have this problem on Slow Travel. We don't need this type of "popularity."

Today it is Stanley Lindberg. The names are getting more realistic but I do wish there was some way of controlling the membership to block these silly posts.

This is beyond annoying. I do not believe this cannot be resolved.
Who is in charge of this site these days? Or has it just become an unwanted responsibility to them?

I don't know who is doing what. But again today, we have Rochelle Allers who has inundated the site. It is possible that since we are now on PrBoards and the domain name is gone, we are more vulnerable to this type of thing.

Seems like we need:
- A good scrubbing of posts and profiles to delete all the spam
- Another step in the new member process to be sure it's not a spammer. I just joined another website and had to do some confirming via email. They said it was to be sure new members are people and not computers.
- Ongoing monitoring and removal of any new spam
I'm happy to assist in this process. I hate to see this site be inundated with spam.

We are all competing for new members, even amateur sports clubs need to attract new members to stay afloat. How do you attract new members to join your club and not the club down the road? Who do you want to attract, how will they help you meet your objectives as a committee? Once you have attracted those members, how do you keep them happy?
