In vey early stages of planning. While watching the game yesterday, we started surfing on VRBO. We like to try new areas each time we go. The place we loved in Saint Mande is not available. I came across one that appealed to me. It is VRBO 34011. I know next to nothing about this area near Rue Des Martyrs. I'm hoping some of you can advise me. We like to be near a regular grocery store or Monoprix. Thanks.

Looks like a great place, Suzanne. Have you read Laidback's report on the area? I think it's in the "Quartier by Quartier" section. I remember he loves staying in that area. Also I'm pretty sure Holger has stayed around there and ended up liking it, but in the beginning the noise from an elementary school was a little troublesome. It sounds like this apartment is across the street from a school tho, rather than off the playground, so you probably wouldn't have much noise. I do find it curious that there are only 2 reviews for this apartment even tho it's been listed for 9 years!

Hi Suzanne! I was just thinking about you last week and wondered what had become of you. I've missed seeing you around.
The area sounds lovely, but it wouldn't be my first pick, but that's subjective, isn't it? The area around the Grand Boulevards is too congested and commercial for me, but that's me.
The apartment looks terrific though.

Thanks guys. I e-mailed the owner and he replied that my dates were available. I e-mailed him back with some questions (looks like he lives in SF). He has not answered me yet. Then I got to work today and found out I need to change my dates so perhaps we won't be getting that place after all. Annette, I do recall Holger staying in that area the year we met them for breakfast. School yard noise is not a poblem for us.Steep hilly streets might be though. Jim is having knee issues these days.

What about Luc or Truffaut's apartments? They're both in fun areas to explore. Truffaut's is brand spanking new, and Luc's has that gorgeous garden and terrace!

Hi Suzanne - haven't stayed in this area but I will tell you that I do enjoy Rue Des Martyrs - have walked "down" that street several times - lots of good restaurants/bars/patisseries/chocolate shops, etc along the way! I didn't walk back "up" so can't tell you about that but if Jim is having knee problems, probably wouldn't be too good for him - of course depending on exactly where the apt is located!

I had to change my dates and e-mailed the owner yesterday morning. I have not heard from him. I checked with VIP and they have an apartment available that we really liked when we stayed there a few years ago (#79) and another that has been recommened by Jody (#201) so I sent a reservation request for either of those. Now the not so fun chore of finding airfare begins.
