Lately in NYC I've been visiting or re-visiting some of the old classics...in NY if you don't do this now..who knows if they will still be around? In the last year or so been to Sardi's, Patsy's(the red sauce Sinatra haunt in the W 50ths, not the various pizza places), Old Towne, Pete's Tavern, and the French Chez Napoleon, Veau D'or, Le Perigord, Etc.
So decided to do some of that in Paris...Polidor got a nice write up in France Today, and also wanted to try Perraudin..couldn't quite believe I hadn't been before! At first I was confusing Polidor with Le Procope where we have been...yet another "P"!
So now it is Monday another Cold, windy, cloudy morning...head to Passy(!) to check out Franck and Fils Department Store. Walk from Metro along shopping street and at one end the lovely bldg that is F & F....lovely heat gusts as you enter. Subdued in this posh area on a late Mon morn. The major upscale lines...a good place to explore them with out the hustle bustle of the central grand magasins. LIke walking around this area checking out the grand buildings, many like villas, and the dowagers getting into called taxis or their own cars with drivers!
Head back toward the Etoile as the purpose of this detour is lunch at Prumier on Victor Hugo...been to the shop on Pl Madelaine nestled among all the other lux emporiums there(didn't get in that area this trip...put on list!) before but not the Restaurant.
Will describe lunch there in the Restaurant section.
Afterwards check out little shopping street of rue Chaillot, pastry and choclolat store stop then head down Pierre Charron, past our hotel for many Septembers, Chateau Frontenac, and down thru Tuileries back across and home.
To Polidor, short walk, for dinner. Perfect. Seated at end of communal red checked table clothed table.Sign says not accepting credit cards sine 1845! Celerie Remoulade, Steak Frites, lemon tart, and a carafe of cote de Gascogne....60 Euros for two!
Service, atmosphere great...some solo older folks, some student types, not very many non French on a cold Feb nite!
Mardri Gras This was the day set aside for a train trip to Noyon but btw the weather and return trip times we decided to fore go. Instead I decided on an outing to the Pet Cemetary! Long metro and then trek across highway bridge ...as weather worsens.
But quite charming, 3..50 entrance, once we got the attention of the youngins working in the little ticket bldg huddling with their heaters...could have walked in and they never would have noticed!
Found Rin Tin Tin, plus tributes to a St Bernard attributed with saving 46 lives, Pompiers' mascots, police dogs, and lots of cats and other beloved pets. You get a map with admission. Impressive headstones, some still decorated with little xmas trees. Made comment about the "sanity" of the folks who would do this and got one back about the "sanity" of women who would choose to leave Central Paris and wander around it in the sleet esp after I mentioned that as a child I of course preferred Lassie to Rin Tin Tin..no offense Tin..I left a foill wrapped candy on his grave..didn't have a USA coin.
Well for the sake of the rest of the trip we tabled that discussion and headed back to Central Paris.
Stop at Galeries lafayette to check out the N2 jewelry counter there. 40-50% off! Bought Paris pastry bracelets...one for sis who has B'day coming up....but I thought it might be too snug for her and lovely sales girl said she could add links right there and then as I went to cash desk!
Went up to cafeteria and lunched on cheese, pain, pate, and vin from the vin machine with a lovely view of the back of the Opera House. I do think BHV caf has a better selection particularly of starters and desserts....no dessert called to us here
So stopped at Foucher on Ave de Opera and got some macarons and chocolats and headed back, window shopping and such.
Room made up but a bit after we returned, knock..man with machine to clean floors...the renovated rooms do not have rugs...just wood...said he'd do tomorrow.....
Head out to forage for diner, walk up by Lux Gardens , nothing calls and wind up back in SG for L'Atlas on Rue Buci. Oysters and duck confit with tasty little fried potato pillows!. Young waiter was spending quite a bit of time at table with young ladies and bartender, older man, our table was next to bar, kept telling him to pay attention to Madame....moi! S/O amused. I, ;D flattered.....
