Snow is rare in Paris. Generally we see a few flakes once or twice a year, but it almost always melts the moment it touches the ground -- or else it snows during the night and it is already half gone by the time people wake up. The snow on the weekend was reputedly the heaviest snowfall in Paris since the 1980's. Even though there were no big flakes, it snowed non stop for more than 12 hours.

Love the pictures! Particularly the very unhappy cat probably wondering who brought the cold and snow that is typically so catlike when uncomfortable. My cats loathe the cold weather and hug radiators in the house while glaring at us.

How beautiful everything looks! Your photos are truly stunning, Kerouac. In general, snow is a delight to look at, and Paris covered in white is especially beautiful. That said, I still have no desire to plan a winter trip to Paris. I like warmer weather.

I thought the same thing, Holger. That cat looked as though he was thinking, "I'm not stepping in that!"
Your usual good pictures, Kerouac. Thank you.

We have ticketed and booked apartment for next December into early January as I wanted to spend the holidays in Paris. If we get snow like that my husband will have a fit and will be like the cat. Cold is one thing but snow and ice quite another.
Oh well, it is done.

Cold is one thing but snow and ice quite another. Oh well, it is done. You are very well prepared! I am planning to be in Paris in Jan 2014 and have not even given thought to any accommodation yet. I agree the weather is also alarming me somewhat. I am not sure how well I would cope. Well, apart from drinking copious amounts of hot chocolate. ;D

smart call, Jody -- this Florida girl has found one aspect of life in France that she does NOT like, not at all.
I grew up in the Midwest -- so I am no neophyte to snow and ice....but I will be delighted to see the end of this cold snap.

If you live in an area where snow and cold weather are more the rule than the ... must choose between: La Cigale, Le Divan du Monde or the Elysee Montmartre.
