We were meeting up with my son for the day so he could be a tourist in his new city. On the schedule was the Musee D’Orsay. My friend and son loved the Musee D’Orsay. We saved the special exhibit for last, Impressionism and Fashion. I loved it. (I have a feeling the son tolerated it, although he could be seen looking closely at the men’s fashion). You can read about it on the Musee D’Orsay website and it also states there that the exhibition will be moving to both New York and Chicago in 2013. Who knows, maybe I’ll travel to Chicago to see it again.
We had lunch in the restaurant at the museum and our salad with chicken and a mango curry dressing was very good. Using my phone, I took a picture of the Eiffel tower from one of the windows at Musee D’Orsay and I liked how it turned out so I’ve included it here. We left the museum and stopped for a coffee before beginning our walk along the Seine to Notre Dame.
This trip, I planned to actually go inside. The area in front of Notre Dame is covered with temporary buildings and construction and is fenced in. Anyone wanting to take an artistic picture of the church would be unable to at this time. I was very happy to go inside and just sit quietly for a while, taking it all in. After a bit, we walked the entire length of the place, stopping to check everything out and I found a sign that explained what they were building outside. I should have taken a picture of the sign to remind me, but, from what I remember, they are recreating a small village that would have existed 700 years ago when Notre Dame was being built. When we were preparing to leave, a female soloist began, soon accompanied by a male chorus. It was very nice to listen to and I recorded the sound portion on my phone to listen to when I wanted to remember.
Next stop, Shakespeare and Company, a place all three of us enjoyed. I bought myself “A Moveable Feast†by Ernest Hemingway. It was a new edition, redone, and the picture on the cover is of him standing in front of Shakespeare and Company. I’ve never read this book, so it will be on my list for this year.
Dinner this evening happened on the nearby touristy street, rue de la Huchette. No one in our little party wanted to be the one who made a decision on a restaurant due to the bad experience had the first evening. Warning, explicit language, son and friend dubbed the people in front of the places along this street “Food Whoresâ€. Employees stood outside and beckoned you in. I don’t recall this from 4.5 years ago. I thought I was pretty safe choosing La Taverne Grecque, a restaurant I had actually eaten in on my first trip. At that time, my friend forgot her credit card there and when we returned the next day, the manager had it in safekeeping in the safe. This time around, the food was not so good. I remember the fresh salad from 2008, I did not eat my salad in 2012. The moussaka was good, though. Lesson learned? No.
