I decided to do a bit of shopping today at the department stores. I was surprised to hear Christmas music when I came up from the metro - and even more surprised to see that the holidays windows are already on display. Galaries Lafayette I liked the penguins. Polar bear Upside down panda bear I really liked these dancers. The picture doesn't do it justice. Very chic The tree had Swarovski crystals that changed color. Traditional red Yellow Purple - my favorite Another display inside the store And on to Printemps. Skaters I love the expression on her face. This skater went around in a circle. The tree was pretty but nowhere near as elaborate at Galaries Lafayette. An unexpected treat!

Oh lucky you. I was disappointed we were too early for the Paris windows but we did see Harrod's!

Oh Janet, that was fun! It's truly one of the things I love about Paris, those creative and fun window displays those French dept stores do at Christmas. And they're free! Makes me wonder at our pathetic ones here tho Thanks for the pictorial!

Thanks Janet...makes me wish I were making an Xmas time trip this year......but Feb is not THAT far off Ah.know how you feel Ahhh can ...feel your anticipation..recall the feeling I had when someone posted those kinds of photos before I was going....and then seeing it all for myself.....you are in for a treat....to put it mildly.... As for the "earliness" of the displays..someone once pointed out to me Europeans start early because they don't have Thanksgiving to deal with....er, ah. I mean enjoy! Doesn't stop some of the stores around here but the biggies do wait until at least the weekend after!

Not to be a downer, but I was really disappointed with G. L. windows this year. They were all too "adult" and not very playful. Some of them were even a bit scary for kids. I also noticed that every window at G. L. featured only Louis Vuitton and Printemps featured only Dior. I wonder if the stores haven't sold out and given too much control to the brands rather than to their own playful window designers.

Interesting--I've read a few reports from other people who thought the same, T. It's too bad! I hope they go back to their more traditional windows next year.

Thanks to Janetnj for taking the time to post the pics for us! How very lovely they are. Also, anyone know what purses those are on the polar bears? I've been looking for a certain type of purse, and those are the very thing!

;D
These helped our decision to spend Christmas through New Year's 2013-14 in Paris. Have started to look at apartments and have pretty well decided on one on the Left bank this time. Cannot do anything on flights till later on to get a round trip with a January return in 2014 even though we are now in December.
But it is nice to start thinking about our next trip. Of course, if we go off the fiscal cliff or taxes go up drastically, who knows.

I felt the same way about the GL windows. I did like Printemps, but the Dior sponsorship was evident. I hope they maintain the tradition and don't turn the windows into another advertising campaign for major brands.

Xmas will def be in London but unsure where to fit Paris in - 2013 or 2014. :-)
