Another great post, Keith. I think the right choice is the choice that's right for you, lol. It's your vacation and you know yourself and your travel habits better than anyone on any board.
We love renting apartments but I know many friends who would not be able to stay where there is no room service, maid service, concierge service, etc. To each his own, that's what makes life interesting.
I love the painting at the top of the post ~ where do you keep getting these beautiful images?

Jo you nailed it. It's different for different people. I'm certainly not against staying at an apartment for a future visit. The room service, etc. means little to us. But for our first EVER visit and all the new things we were venturing into, the hotel was perfect for us.

Now we have our feet wet and who knows where we will stay during our next visit.
