in Paris!!!! I am soooo excited. A girlfriend and I have just booked an Air Canada Vacations package and will fly out of Toronto on Sat Nov 24 arriving in Paris Sun morn Nov 25 and flying back to TO the following Sat. ;D ;D ;D This is my friend's first trip to Paris and my second. She had only two requests, she would like to stay in/near the Latin Quarter and she wants to visit Malmaison. I said I could do that - lol. (although I know nothing about Malmaison or how to get there, will have to research) My son has lived in Paris for one week now and he loves it. He attended Nuit Blanche on the weekend and called to tell hubby and I all about it. I actually knew what Nuit Blanche was thanks to this forum ;D He is going to take a couple of days off to spend with us while we are there. I will be reading this and other sites for the next 7 weeks for tips. I always love the anticipation almost as much as being there (almost-lol). Now off to have my turkey dinner with family. Happy Thanksgiving to fellow Canadian Paris Lovers.

Woohoo! Christmas shopping in Paris is a blast--we did that one year. I may be doing a little of that this trip as well. Malmaison is really easy to get to. Take the metro or train plus bus as directed, then when you get off the bus, cross the street and backtrack about 1/2 a block and you will come the road it's down. Nice little walk.

Thanks janetnj and Annette for your Malmaison link and directions. My friend was coincidentally reading a trilogy about Josephine by Sandra Gulland (when I asked if she wanted to travel) and as a result, Malmaison went on our list of things to do. She said it is a very easy read and I'm going to try and read all three books before we leave. Even if it is fiction, it helps put some things into context. I have a feeling there are going to be smiley faces in any post I make in the next little while - lol.

That trilogy is great--yes, very easy read, and full of lots of historical details (plus some fluff) that will make Malmaison come alive for you I've wanted to return since I've read those books, too.

i enjoyed that series, too. Very pleasant, easy read. While you're here, take your friend to the Palais Royal and peek into Le Grand Vefour restaurant, where Jo and Napoleon used to dine together. The decor hasn't changed. To get in the mood, you're welcome to check out my blog. www.findingnoon.com

Lucky you to be in Paris right before the holidays - just love looking at all the festive decorations and especially the windows at Printemps and Galeries Lafayette! Enjoy!

I will put this on the list. Thanks!

The Christmas chocolates have already arrived in the stores. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

The Christmas chocolates have already arrived in the stores. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? It depends on the quality of the chocolate. ;D

Hooray! I was inspired by your post and checked the train prices from Amsterdam. Happy to say I just booked my train ticket to Paris for a weekend of Christmas shopping! Chocolate is indeed high on the list! I'm interested to know, are there any particularly Parisian pre-Christmas traditions not to miss during that time (I'll be there the weekend of November 30th)?

Rachel and Beth and Ahhh, Check out of course the Department store windows and the various Market Streets are also nicely decorated, and a trip down the main st on Isle St Louis! Breaks for hot chocolate, mulled wine, cold weather soups, stews and casseroles, in general heavy eating keeps you warm! ;D Long lunches..... Plus I feel being there around the Holidays is a good excuse to indulge in all the 'Luxe" stuff if you enjoy it Champagne, foie gras, chocolates, decadent desserts, seafood platters, smoked salmon, caviar... Enjoy! And yes I saw Darcy's Plan de Paris as well....she has the blue "flatter" one..mine is a little smaller, thicker and green! Thanks for reminding me..I meant to employ the post it method but haven't yet!
