Forchette de Printemps 17th & Helene Darozze 6th
B'day dejeuner at Forchette de Printemps. Small corner spot ..several prix fixte menus..the Petite Menu is dej..49 E for amuse bouche, entree, plat.pre dessert and dessert! We start with Chanpagne of course!
Amuse bouche creme cauliflower soup with truffle oil....divine! Then silky foie gras with figs and Polaine toasts. Then a superb supreme de volaille ..best juicy chicken I've had in a long time .wonderful sauce, served with a cocotte of veggies, also wonderfully sauced, haricort vert, squashes, carrots and mushrooms. A little tiramisu, and then dessert figs fanned out on plate around a sable topped with vanilla ice cream...cleaned plate! Mini macarons with cafe! Nice St. Nicolas vin with meal...Perfect!
Service provided by lovely young, fluent in English, woman. 2 young chefs..saw them when a meter maid was ticketing motorbikes on island across from restaurant...they watched then one ran out to prevent summons!
Day after B'day lunch at Helene Darozze. Valet parking type of place. Main dining room is upstairs..less expensive "tapas" style downstairs.
Escorted upstairs. Kind of stark modern decor..purple, orange, rose? An industrial strength meat slicer is rolled to the table....another guy presents a silver flute of warm mini cheese puffs, and the most delicious, olive oily and herb rolls ever! Black forest ham is shaved to greet us. Ask about Champagne, champagne cart rolled over..lovely young female sommelier..
Menu is on lucite block.2 tasting menus of various numbers of courses, plus the dej menu @ 50 some Euros or 60 some with 2 glasses of wine. 2 entrees are presented which are a "surprise"...they ask if there is anything you don't eat?, .....(I bravely said no and hoped no tripe or heads!) , a choice of2 plats and 2 desserts.
First surprise...mackerel cerviche with avocado and corn , would not have ordered but was surprisingly good.......not a mackeral fan but haven't had much, esp fresh! Fruity white wine.
Second surprise foie gras cooked over some wood(forget) with fresh and macerated figs.divine! A different herbed bread..also tasty.
Main course John Dory in coconut something curry sauce with green and yellow squashes. Dryer white wine....sublime.
Dessert Madagascar(if that was said one more time I would have expected it to be served by a lemur! ) chocolat.......a bloc of moussey cake and a tablet..rich, decadent, and Madagascary!
Cafe with mini macarons and brioches filled with creme and pear...lovely!
Would have preferred a bit more choice but all an all a great meal.and experience..the service is theatre!
