So landed at CDG and got TGV to Rennes, Had printed out ticket so no problem...plus conductor never checked tickets.. About 3 hrs..tried to sleep but no going. Hotel easy walk from Gare. Hotel Victoria..restaurant on side and at the time I arrived it was beginning lunch so not too much interaction with desk.limited English but fine. S/O got there about 20 mins later.
Head to Centre Ville for late lunch.very walkable town...everything you want to see as a short term visitor is walkable. Wound up at Creperie St Anne having Crepes Complete( ham, cheese, egg) and cidre..served in coffee cups! Not mugs..like shallow coffee cups from a complete dinner set.with handles.the crepe places I've been to in Paris serve it in bols..bowls w/o handles.
I could only eat about a third...jet lag, been eating on the plane all night etc., still early in NY! But enjoyed the cidre. ;D Checked out a bit of the City..right across the Place from the Creperie was a church where a bunch of homeless guys in military garb had taked up residence with dogs..strange to see dogs actually in a church(and it smelled kind of funky)...they were mostly toward the back but one guy with a dog was near the altar and a "church lady" was giving him a piece of her mind and he and dog left,
Diner was at a very cute place Bistro A Tartines, outdoors, three cheese tartine avec pear followed by pear tart with chocolat. Vin rouge(particuliere) and cafe. Roll up the streets after 10 kind of town . Sky was cobalt blue on walk back to hotel...gorgeous!
Hotel PD the next morning, a local cake on buffet, along with the usual fare. Explored town, lots of half timbered buildings looking like they were tumbling down but businesses and people living there! Toured Cathedral and area , a few weddings , lunch another crepe @ L'Albac du Marche on Pl. Lices ....scallops in a delicious creme sauce avec leeks and mushrooms..yum and rose cidre. Day of churches, parks, shopping, stopping for kir bretons,MUSEE DES BEAUX ARTS(nothing awe inspiring but a nice visit), just wandering. Diner @ Le Paix, Local Oysters.delicious, creamy, but not served with brown bread and butter as they are in Paris, Normandy, and here! Waitress did ask if we wanted butter for the baguette slices Then roasted cod with leeks, tomatoes, crispy galette, and delicious sauce....Muscadet. Then Kougin amann with pomme sorbet..divine! Walking it off back to hotel along pretty canal...lovely
Next morning check out and cafe and pain au chocolat at Gare...off to Quimper....composition de train map confusing as the train was separating at some point so there were two trains on map. We were not in the right spot when train arrived. rushing to the derriere as whistles blowing ,traveling thru at least three cars with all our luggage as TGV is moving..my bruises could rival most stiffs on CSI!
