We currently have a reservation at Hotel Relais Saint Germain (in the St. Germain area) and also at Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg (Lourve area). It is our 1st trip to Paris. We are concerned about Hotel Relais Saint Germain being a boutique hotel. It seems to be in a younger/trendier neighborhood with more cafes and shopping, but can anyone tell us anything about the hotel? We booked the Sofitel as a backup (larger hotel)....just in case. Any personal experiences with either Relais Saint Germain Hotel or the St. Germain (6e) neighborhood wood be really helpful. Thank you.

We stayed Many times in the St germain area before renting apts. There is lots to do and allsorts of cafes bistros and services and transport nearby.I would much prefer it ti The Louvre area even though you can walk to the Louvre from it.

I'm with Jody. I haven't stayed in the 6th, but I love the vibe of the area, it's many cafes and boulangeries, and would much prefer staying in that area than the area around the Louvre, which isn't as quaint and to me, colder and more commercial.

The Hotel Relais Saint Germain has gotten excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and from the photos, it looks lovely. As far as location goes, I would prefer it to that of the other hotel.

You will be happy to stay there. There is a restaurant in the hotel that is so popular. they serve a special dinner during the week that one has to reserve months in advance but as hotel guests, you will be given preference to have a table. the dinner is served during the wek. all other times, people have to stand in line to get a table. Yves Camdeborde used to be a chef at Les Ambassadeurs (Crillon Hotel) working with Christian Constant, then he opened La Regalade in the 14th arrondissement but his wife really wanted to run a nice hotel.
I agree with everyone else... the area is wonderful. we are staying in the quartier right now in an apartment and we love it!!!
enjoy and hope you choose the 6th!!!

Thank you all for your advice. We were concerned about the "smaller boutique hotel" with A/C availability/functionality, cleanliness, noise, "pets welcome" (not something we're used to seeing in an American hotel...although we do understand it to be a Paris thing). We were wondering if anyone had been to that hotel and what their thoughts were on the immediate neighborhood as well. We will be leaving for Paris in about a week. Can't wait!
