Well, lunch at Spring was superb! But I knew it would be. We met our friends there ,Lucien and Marie. We started out with some wine, and then they bring 2 small dishes out. One has pieces of cucumbers and radishes, very crisp. The other dish had 2 pieces of a sushi like fish ,Benito ,I think they said.So yummy with their crunchy rolls and the best butter... Then they bring out a dish that had the sweetest peas, some other green beansn not haricot verts, just the bean, like flageolet ,with a poached egg on top,and some wonderful jambon slices, and a light foamy broth.Oh my gosh,we cleaned those bowls out with our bread. Next, the main course was a thick, melt in your mouth slice of veal, wrapped in Swiss chard, served with something like mashed potatoes, but I think they said it was something almond. We were talking to our neighbors who were on their honeymoon,so I missed some of the explanations.Oh well.... Dessert time, first 2 small dishes, one has the best strawberries with some lemon granita on top,the other has a fudge -like piece with a coffee granita. So refreshing and light. Then the waiter brings out a bowl with some ice cream made from Greek yogurt, topped with sugared pistachios,he says don't eat it all right away, because it goes well with something else.I couln't wait ,so I had a few spoons right away. Then they bring out a large oven proof dish with hot cherry clafoutis .Everyone got a a large serving and topped it with the remaining ice cream.( no calories counted today!) Coffee followed and of course, something with it,a tiny cream puff filled with a lemon cream, and 2 pieces of chocolate. Just as we were ready to leave, the skies opened with that liquid sunshine,so we has to spend some time in the boutique. All in all, another great day...

Ah, sounds just like Mr Rose, lol. Spring has always exceeded our expectations and I know I will be back (we missed it this year, I just didn't think it was a place to bring Seb, although Daniel did offer to make him something special when we spoke about it last year ~ that's just the kind of guy he is). Glad you enjoyed it and it was all you wanted it to be. The butter is seaweed butter from Bordier and I could eat it with a spoon! Keep enjoying Paris! Jo

So glad to hear that your meal at Spring was a success. Each dish was apparently very special and memorable. Despite this, I don't think I'd be brave enough to go to a restaurant where you're not given choices.

Glad you enjoyed your meal, lainie. So glad to hear that your meal at Spring was a success. Each dish was apparently very special and memorable. Despite this, I don't think I'd be brave enough to go to a restaurant where you're not given choices. I'm with you Shoesy. There are just some food items I prefer not to eat and knowing my luck, they'd be the feature items on the menu.

I believe that the menu is now for 1 week at a time and is posted on the website ~ but since you have to reserve a month ahead of time, that still doesn't help those who want to know what they are getting ahead of time. We've been to a few restaurants where there isn't a choice (Les Papilles, Chez l'Ami Jean's tasting menu, Nomiya as well as Spring) and have always enjoyed everything we were served ~ but then again, we are little piggies who eat almost everything, lol. I'm with Shoesy, Mez & Jody, I'm afraid. I'd LOVE to eat at Spring since it gets so many raves, but every report seems to include fish, and I don't "do" fish. But I sure love reading the reviews posted here! I can pretend

I've dined at several restaurants where I've let the chef dictate and knock on wood, have never had anything I haven't at least found interesting...most things I've liked, some I've loved and some I've found exquisite. My thinking is that I'm putting myself in the hands of experts who love food, so I trust that they won't serve me something vile... and that has paid off in some wonderful experiences. And I'm a former vegetarian!! So yes, Jo, we gotta make it work!!! ;D

Spring cooks make everything taste divine.I am not an anchovy fan,but last year one of the nibbles were fresh anchovies that had been fried. So delicious, not at all salty. You just have to try it and be open to new tastes and flavors. They do ask if you have any allergies beforehand..it is a great experience, you never know what's coming next.

..it is a great experience, you never know what's coming next. Lainie, great observation..........I think that is part of the fun for us. It's like unwrapping a gift at each course. Dawn, you are right ~ we put ourselves in the chef's hands and trust him to take care of us. Den and I both feel that if it's on a plate in a great restaurant, it's meant to be eaten. To be honest, sometimes I don't think too much about what I'm eating other than in broad terms ~ it's meat, it's fish, etc. Because of this, I have tried foods that I probably wouldn't have ordered on my own (sweetbreads, pigeon, fish roe, etc). We are lucky that we both like almost everything and I realize many people just can't fathom eating offal or raw fish. Everyone has their comfort level ~ I still don't think I could eat brains, lol (unless they were cut in very tiny pieces and mixed in with something else Luckily, there are lots of great restaurants in Paris so everyone can enjoy what they love to eat ~ it's another reason it's the most wonderful city in the world!
