I just finished reading a relatively new book called A Train in Winter. Its the story of 230 of the French Women Resistance movement who were taken from the Gestapo detention camps and sent on a train to Auschwitz. The youngest was 15, the eldest was 68. There were only 49 survivors and the story tells of the womens support for each other , fellowship, and how they got back to Paris. This book moved me so much, it is an incredible journey the women took. The author is Caroline Mooerhead. Cheers Dan

Yes, Dan thank you. I'm going to reserve it at my local library on your say-so . Btw, there's a thread in the Off-Topic category called What Are We All Reading...we're always throwing books out for others' consideration. I've had many good recommendations from the readers here and enjoyed telling others about wonderful books I've read as well. If you enjoyed Women on the Train, there are lots of books in that genre in the Reading thread. Happy Reading!

Happy Anniversary, geordy! Btw, do you have an affinity for Daphne DuMaurier's novels? Just asking because I saw your tag line. I love her books. A few years ago in Florence, we were staying at a fancy-schmancy hotel (quite by accident; I'm definitely not la-di-da!). I went down to breakfast and this lovely, eccentric-looking, older lady sat beside me. Being one who will happily talk to a brick wall, if no one else is around, I struck up a conversation with her. She told me she lived in Cornwall, and I said that one of my favorite authors was from Cornwall. Turned out she lived next door to the DuMaurier's in Cornwall. She regaled me with stories about them; apparently theirs was an unhappy marriage and both took lovers rather openly. She was hugely entertaining! Funny, but I bet there are all sorts of interesting people all around us if we just take the time to encourage conversation.
