Sandy, this is great. Two of them, Blé Sucre and Cyril Lignac are a 5-min walk from the apt we'll be staying at in January. We can try them both

Sandy, this is great. Two of them, Blé Sucre and Cyril Lignac are a 5-min walk from the apt we'll be staying at in January. We can try them both I hope to try some of them - will let you know what I think!! I know I'll like the ones at Ble Sucre as I've had them before - I think any pastries they make would be good!

Well, I did get to 3 of these places to try the croissants - went to Ble Sucre, La Patisserie by Cyril Lignac and Au Levain du Marais - of the three, I definitely liked Ble Sucre the best - they just had an extra taste and flakiness that the others lacked. Will try to get to the other two places next trip!
On the other hand, in the May issue of Bon Appetit, Dorie Greenspan recommends the madeleines at Ble Sucre - I tried them when I went to get the croissant and didn't like the results at all - I did like the glaze they use, however, I believe they left the madeleines in the oven too long as they were quite brown around the edges and the cake was a little dry - I like the madeleines at La Grand Epicerie at Bon Marche much better than the ones at Ble Sucre!

Sandy, I don't know how you stay so slim with all the chocolate and pastry tasting! LOL Will have to get to Ble Sucre one of these times. Oh, Dana told me she saw you at the store a few nights ago! Said it was so nice to run into someone she knows and she's sorry if she talked your ear off

No kidding, huh Annette?? How on earth do you stay so slim Sandy...as near as I can figure, you do nothing but eat chocolate and croissants. You understand this is the green monster talking, right??

I get the impression Sandy is a gym bunny which helps balance the croissant and chocolate eating.
Besides, Sandy is doing us a favour by conducting a final review of all the articles out there to make sure we don't waste out precious Paris time eating sub-standard fare. :-D

Maybe you got the madeleines on a bad day....as you say might have left in the oven too long.... When not flying off for something wonderful at the drop of a hat and indulging in cafe cremes, pastries and chocolats not to mention foie gras burgers ...Sandy seems very disciplined ! I'm also going with good genes!

Well, Thanks but I don't see myself as that thin - although, I had lost a couple of pounds before the Paris trip and when I got home had lost two more!! Not happy about that but I'm sure it's from all the Metro steps and the walking - hopefully, those lost lbs will come back on quickly - don't want to get too low as then all those wrinkles just pop out of everywhere!! LOL!
And I can assure you that I don't eat all that stuff when I'm home - I would weigh a ton if I did that! I just enjoy visiting (and sampling) different chocolate/pastry shops while I'm in Paris because many times, it takes me to areas of Paris that I haven't been before and I take time to explore the area a bit!
Annette - it was great to see Dana - those little grandsons of yours are so darling - told Dana we would have to get together for coffee so we could visit more - I'll give her a call.
Mossie - Thanks for just the "touch" of older!! You're so funny!
And yes, Mez I am a gym bunny - I'm there every morning Mon-Fri at 7:15AM - do a 2 mile walk on the treadmill, short coffee break and then go in to a 45 minute exercise class, after that, more coffee with the other ladies and then home - it's one of the nice things about retirement to have the leisure time to go the gym every day.

Sandy, an exalt for the discipline Thanks Peter - it really isn't a bother because I enjoy going every day and if there is the RARE occassion that I don't go, my day just doesn't go right if I don't get my start at the gym - I feel so much better and sleep so much better so it's worth it!
