We are up to Tuesday now and that was the day that the Metro mugger was about. What happened was quite simple.Stella and I walked down the stairs to the ticket machine where this huge black guy was standing at the machine. I am not racist in the least so I wasn't too worried. He finished and looked as though he was checking his wallet so I moved to the machine and turned the wee roller thing so I could buy a carnet of 10. He reached over and told me that he would show me how to use the machine. I told him that IO knew but thanks for the offer. He carried on though and gave me the tickets when they fell into the drawer, When the change came down he reached in and gave me 2 euros and 20c. I said "and the rest sunshine" he smiled and loomed over me then turned and ran up the stairs. He ripped me off for about 6 euros which, thinking about what could have happened was cheap at the price. This was in broad daylight as well and I didn't feel threatened as it happened so fast until he moved too close to me and then I really felt threatened. So, ladies please be careful on the metro.
The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. We walked over the Pont Neuf to the island just so we could time the walk as we were going to a concert at St. Chapelle in the evening. We stopped at St.James park behind Notre Dame and as is our wont sat and watched the world go by. There were numerous kids with clipboards wandering around annoying people. When one of them approached us with her clipboard making signing motions with her pen I looked at the form. As I suspected she did not want my autograph but instead wanted me to donate 20euros to a Deaf Mute school at which she studied. I might have been looted of yet more money had Stella not seen her giggling into her cel phone earlier.I told the child to "get tae" which is Glasgow for please don't bother me again and please go away. As she heard this all right off she trotted and so did we to Berthilion where Stella and I both indulged in Salted butter ice creams. Absolutely yummy. Hard to describe the taste but Werner's original toffees crushed into ice creams is about right.
Dinner was stuffed tomato for me and Brandade for Stella from the traiteur down the road.Really good and with a 3.50 bottle of red from the Luberon made a good meal. Off we went then to Ste Chapelle where we had to line up for about ten minutes before getting in. For some strange reason, some officious wee git came out and told us we were lining up on the left instead of the right so we had to move en masse from one side of the door to the other. Once we got in and sat down we could see the full glory of the place and the string quartet played magnificently. It was a programme of Ave Marias and the mezzo soprano was Ghislaine Roux. She is an opera singer of some renown and sure seemed to know her Aves. All in all, a great evening finished off with a couple of glasses of stuff that warms your tum while sitting watching the world yadda yadda yadda.
