Last full day already..and a glorious day it is...sunny not so cold or windy! Another lovely breakfast by the big pink bunny in PD room and off for shopping, walking, and imprinting vistas on brain and soul to last for the next many months!
Walk across isles..stop at Esmeralda for vin chaud..outside in sun..and fabulous view! It is served in Russian tea glass...glass in metal holder, with orange slice and the sugar bowl! Skipped the sugar
Stroll thru other fav hood to stay in of the moment..Marais..to St Paul to check if bakery there has the big choc/pistachio checkerboard or swirl cookies I covet..no. Head to corner and Quell horror!!! Au Bouquet St. Paul is closed, windows blocked out and appears to be being gutted...dump truck outside! Knew it was different last trip..but still enjoyed meal there. So much construction going on here and elsewhere in the City.
Interesting looking fish restaurant across the street on rue Turenne...attached to retail fish store.
Thought this was going to be another "quest for brandade" as I had been teased by it Friday nite but as we were heading toward Beaubourg area passed a little place Le Gai Moulin, and on regular carte....BRANDADE!!!!
Must have walked by this little ...from the front..place many times..on St. Merry right behind the Musee. Dej formula 12E for 2 courses, 16 for 3! Perfect creamy brandade with side green salad win blanc...heaven! But could not finish ..Madame was tsk tsking.
Funny in one of my Xmas book gifts...."...the waiter will inquire, Un Petit dessert? Of course, you will have a petit dessert---being petit, it can't be too fattening, or too expensive, and the kind waiter is merely doing you a favor by reminding you of this."
I've probably heard this a hundred times but never really noticed until now having just read that! So I chuckled when madame asked and of course ordered....fromage blanc with raspberry coulis...would have preferred cherry in honor of President's Day but raspberry t was! Cafe and we are paying bill noticing a huge bar room behind front dining room..plus they have a private room! Hummm..OPF gathering?
Rest of afternoon...enjoying Paris!!
Thought about a cafe meal at Odeon for last diner but very crowded again so stroll, stop at Maison Larnical , open late, on St Germain. They sell chocolats, macarons, and other things by the gram. One of the things are these delectable little pastries..showcased in the window..got 3 to take back to NY..one coconut/choc. one pistache, and one plain. Ate for breakfast the nest 3 days! Kept well. Tasty.
Finally decided on Bar a Huitres. Menu is now on I pads! If you click on an item you even get a picture! I guess after the initial investment it is cost saving....can change items and prices at will, no printing costs, etc. Fun...wondered when the waiter took menus out of little closed cupboard rather than from on top of table, in open sleeve..I imagine they keep an eye on them!
Had...surprise...Champagne and oysters...from Brittany!!! Delectable little amuse bouche of creamy mussel soup. Delightful last dining experience!
