Well it wouldn't be my trip report if there weren't a "thing"
So got my first body scan....no I wasn't profiled for my hot bod and devastating good looks... ;)my entire line ..to the far left..had to go through the scanner...it was sort of hidden from view until you got closer. OK....
the big ole 380 again....resolved I was 25C and sticking to it!
Watched most of Tin Tin movie...normal flight ..
Here's the "thing" when I took out my contacts I noticed a fleck of mascara or whatever on one..rubbed it off while lens in case..happens all the time. This is a relatively new lens and apparently they don't make um like they used to...when I first got lenses when I was in College what I put them through and they always were fine!
So I go to put lens back in before landing. Left one..the one mentioned above..will not center! So to make a long story short..but at that point I didn't know if it was lens or eye! ..I made it through all the airport stuff and to the RER and to hotel seeing out of one eye and winking at everyone and thing!
SO get to hotel in 5th about 10:30 , room ready at 12..better than the 2pm most hotels have been sticking to lately! So leave luggage, and still with one eye..back up lenses in checked luggage and didn't feel like messing with that in the small lobby W/C, head to ATM, cafe for un cafe, and Monoprix on St Michel for water, wine, and snacky things for room.
Go back, get room, put in back ups realizing it is lens and not eye and head out to find lunch as S/O was working part of the day and not arriving until later.
Wanted to try Perraudin but it was packed and I wasn't ready for that in my sleep deprived, bleary eyed condition so headed to Les Fontaines on rue Sufflot which was slightly less packed. Had delicious oeufs meurette..a poached egg in a red wine sauce with spinach, lardons, mushrooms..perfect! Then lamb chops with wonderful potato puree. I would have preferred if the chops had been separated instead of in a rack of three. In my state my butchering skills were not at best and I thought a few times I was going to send them across the room but managed with the help of some fine St Nicholas!
No English heard in room..enjoyed watching the French lunch..sounds silly , and yes New Yorkers talk with their hands as well but it was a familiar but truly French moment..yes I am here!
No room for dessert..plus I knew there would be V-Day goodies in my near future so wander a bit then back to room to get ready for rendezvous!
Had no diner plans so we headed to the Blvd St Germain. Always meant to eat at Le Vagenende..finally did. Perfect window table..by a heater watching the rain. Champagne but of course! I started with a decadent , rich, pumpkin soup with chestnuts and goat cheese. Practically licked the bowl...so couldn't finish my main course of pike quenelles! They came in a little covered copper casserole..2 of the biggest I've ever seen..looked like they were formed with large serving spoons rather than the usual tablespoons! And instead of usual broth like sauce this was thicker and richer......excellent!
Again ...no dessert..but chocolates, macarons, and pastry await back at the hotel!
