Wanted to share that Amy Thomas (whose blog God, I Love Paris is one of my faves) has a new book out titled Paris, My Sweet: A Year in the City of Light (and Dark Chocolate). I got it on my Kindle and love it so far. Be prepared to drool excessively as you read it. This is a great Valentine's Day gift idea for any Paris lover . www.amazon.com/Paris-My-Sweet-Light-Chocolate/dp/1402264119

Hello ouiparis,
How is that handsome young Jacques doing? He must be getting big.......
I just got Paris, My Sweet - haven't cracked it open yet. Can't wait to read about a year in Paris with chocolates......... So, it is an after Valentine's gift for myself (really being very selfish here but when it comes to Paris..........).
bisous, Manang L

I am almost done reading this and came here to post an alert about it.
I hope to follow in her footsteps. Wouldn't that be a fun project for a longer trip - hit two per day? Any more than two would be hard - I love sweets but I would overdose...

I had no idea Paris has an official motto! And I'd like to challenge the question about how many Arc de Triomphes there are in Paris. There is only one "Arc de Triomphe". They should have asked how many "triumphal arches" in the beginning instead of only clarifying that in the answer

Well, yes, goodness....about that quiz....I sadly did not know about Dogtania (?!) but then again...I did know about the Fous de Fa Fa song..ha. I do agree, Annette, that Arc de Triomphe question was tricky. Also, who cares in what movie Paris Hilton starred...gag. So I did not excel in that quiz as I might have hoped...but it was rather fun (if not dismaying at times) to give it a go. I have to say, I had read that the Sacre Coeur was "the monument to reconciliation after the bloodletting of the Commune, loathed by some but painted by many others" (source: "Seven Ages of Paris" by Alistair Horne, p. 290).* It is possible that it may have also been penance for the alleged moral decline after the French Revolution (or what the quiz states as the correct answer)... but I have not yet verified that . (Btw, because I had hitherto thought that the Sacre Coeur was built by the gov't to say sorry for cutting down its citizens....I was never endeared to it...but I digress). So anyway..there you have it.
* See also: "France in Modern Times", 5th Ed. by Gordon Wright, p. 209; " On the hill of Montmartre, the exotic Byzantine bulk of the Church of the Sacre Coeur rises today to commemorate the Commune victims; it was financed by nationwide contributions collected in the 1870's by French Conservatives as a kind of atonement for the nation's sins"; "Paris, the Secret History" by Andrew Hussey p. 292, " The Sacre Coeur...remains a controversial monument, despised by many Parisians.....because it represents the grim victory of the forces of social order over the oppressed."

Cybee, if it makes you feel any better, I'd never heard of Dogtania either. But the thing looked more like a beagle than any of the other options, so I took a shot.

22/25 - 88%. Some really easy stuff, Bastille, Place des Vosges etc. but some really obscure stuff, Flight of the Concords - I've never heard of them let alone the song. A few lucky guesses in there as well always helps

Well, I don't recall seeing a visual clue when I took the quiz (re Dogtania)! That would have helped as then I would not have clicked on "Poodle" ..and such! ha! Did watch a video clip after reading your comment above quoted....and saw Dogtania is/was an animated character! What! I did not pick that up from the question (now I can't recall the specifics of the question but just that we had to answer what was his breed!). I figured he was like some "Lassie" type character from some movie! Well, I expanded my knowledge of culture of cartoons via that quiz! ha!

I got 21 out of 25, but some were guesses! I guess I need to study more, in Paris, of course!
