Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to eat dinner on/near the canal? I thought this would be a fun place for a late afternoon or evening stroll and might be nice to combine with dinner. Any ideas? I have over 50 entries on my restaurant map, but none in this area! Maybe that's a sign that this isn't a good area to eat in?

Annette, I think it was Luc who recommended the restaurant of l' Hôtel du Nord www.hoteldunord.org/It is an ancient hôtel and there also is a very famous film with Arletty which is named after it (but wasn't actually filmed here) . I would have been suspicious of the fact that they would actually use this image to make mediocre or overpriced food, but Luc said it was good, and it doesn't look overpriced from its website . The restaurant only opens at 8 in the evening but they have a bar where you can wait with an aperitif if you've had enough walking .

Thanks Demarais and Anne--I remember hearing about that place now, but probably dismissed it for the same reason you were suspicious, Anne.

Annette: Our Foodie Froggy has a new article written on her food site. Its under My Off the Beaten Path categorie and the article is about Canal St. Martin. If I remember correctly, she talks about the Merry GO Round Museum. It sounds like a good way to spend a nice day. S
