Annette - Mu (I still call her Lizette, although she likes to use her artist name) had phoned and told me how much fun they had going to Gitte's party and meeting all my cyberfriends..... It would have been fun if we were still in Paris. When I planned that trip, I didn't know Mu and Kha were going to be there for Christmas. In the end, Thomas and his family decided to go to England to visit Jane's family as her sister has a new baby - a boy cousin for les framboisettes (Gitte calls them that!). Our youngest one cooked Christmas dinner for us - she even made her own foie gras en torchon - comparable to the ones served in the good houses of Paris. Enjoy your time in your beautiful home on rue Monge. I'll get to see it one of these days and hope to be in Paris at the same time as you and Darrell in the future! Bonne Annee!!! bisous, Lilia

Another installment......... A visit to the Marché at avenue President Wilson is the plan for this Saturday morning “malgré la pluie”. A little rain should not deter the hearty and the robust . . . It has been a couple of years since I visited and so happy to see that the market is thriving – people are happy and so much good food to be had. We got some country bread, paté, cheeses and some wine for lunch. Some pictures: Some girolles – should have bought some to cook for lunch …… Next time ……… Flowers always happiness to a room……. Such a shame that most restaurants don’t serve their Coquille Saint Jacques with their corals…..they are so good……….. Today was moving day and setting up the place………. www.parisperfect.com/apartments-for-rent-in-paris/provence.phpIt is on a courtyard – no elevators which Tom preferred. It was easy to go in and out of just a couple of blocks from rue Cler and another block to Ecole Militaire. Very convenient to walking to the C-E for the lights that as has been reported before, such a disappointment for those who love the twinkling lights of holidays past……….. This is when I got sick and lost a day and a half of my vacation. The good thing is I didn’t have to go back to Hopital Cochin (which according to Gitte is NOT ALLOWED!) Good things yet to come………………

Shoesy and Konza,
Yes, we would stay there again. It is remarkably spacious given the square footage of the place. The owner lives in the building but she lets you deal with Paris Perfect directly for questions. We were very comfortable and the location is great! It is a few doors to rue Saint Dominique and lots of bus lines nearby. Tom loves the ground floor location.
The best thing about the apartment is the price - it is the cheapest Paris Perfect apartment. I wanted a bigger one but it was not available so we lucked out. It also has a phone with free calling to the US, Canada, Australia (both landline and cell) and landline only in Europe.

A Day with Gitte ……………… Gitte flew in for the weekend – a date has been made back in November so we can meet. We had a date fixed for Friday, December 9 to meet at La Cordonnerie on rue Saint Roch…… How lovely to see Gitte again after a long year’s wait. She was waiting at our table with her aperitif and some amuse bouche. What a noisy reception we had; everybody talking at the same time and giving hugs and kisses all around. Did the dog get one, too? I think that was later. Monsieur got a can of Danish Christmas cookies; I got a coffee mug with the picture of my family (that was posted in Facebook) which is now gracing my office. I don’t get to drink anything but in that cup! Gitte got a California wine – a cabernet sauvignon from the Napa Valley which she will have in Paris during her Christmas/New Year’s Holiday taking care of the pussycats. Don’t remember what we ate as we were mostly visiting but we did skip dessert so we can sample some at Jean Paul Hevin down the street. We had a bottle of bubbly and a bottle of Bourgogne which got consumed to the last drop. The dog “Bliss” got his bisou………… see below: Our sampling of desserts: Oops – that’s not dessert …… Someone else is wearing my hat …………. A decadent Chocolate concoction……. A lemon tartlette…… A tartlette aux poires ….. (I ate a lot of pear desserts during this trip..) Now, we’re ready to go out in the sunshine. Off to Place Vendome to look at all the expensive jewelry………. Love the lights and the beautiful clouds……….. What are these two up to? I think they want to shop for diamonds to put in that big bag…….. I guess those two did not find any good-enough-diamonds so we just strolled through the Ritz Hotel like we belonged there……………..

What a wonderful GTG for you guys! It's always so much fun to catch up with far flung friends, especially in Paris ~ it just makes it that much more special. Looks like you guys had a blast.
Thanks for sharing with us, Jo

How lovely to see Gitte again after a long year’s wait. She was waiting at our table with her aperitif and some amuse bouche. I must be one of the few OPFers who has not met Gitte but this is exactly a scene I would imagine seeing her in. I am glad you enjoyed your visit.

As we are finishing the last box of French chocolates, I am reminiscing the things I enjoyed most during this last trip……… A day with Gitte tops the list A meal with Parisian friends at Violon d’Ingres My favorite Sunday lunch at l’Obe with Joan and a couple of French friends My visit with old friends, “The Lady with the Unicorn” and "Ava" A stroll at the Carnavalet A stop at Notre Dame – sorry to miss the Gregorian Mass at 10:00 The way light reflects on the Seine The way the sun shines on the stone buildings The nice chats I had with Pierre Cluizel, Jean-Charles Rouchoux and Christian Constant Plus the delight of Les Framboisettes upon seeing these pastries from Paris: Religieuses Violette from Laduree; some Ispahan from Pierre Herme; Grue and Choux Pistache aux fruits rouges from Un Dimanche a Paris and on the table, a Vacherin Mont d’Or from Anne Marie Cantin These memories should be enough to last me until the next trip? ?

Geordy,
Yes, 10:00 AM on Sundays. It is quieter than the next one which is more international.
The Mont d'Or should still be available until March, I believe! The ones from Anne Marie Cantin were the best tasting ones I have tried. She has a cheese-aging room below her shop. When her father ran the cheese shop in the 80s, Tom always bought "yesterday's cheese" from him which has endeared my husband to the cheesemonger...... My son used to make a face when he got home from school. He hated cheese then but now, he loves them - the stinkier, the better.
By the way, Anne Marie Cantin is on rue de Champ de Mars near rue Cler (I think it is No. 22 but you can't miss it!). She also has this beautiful round of cheese that has black truffle in the middle (I didn't buy any as it was 49 euro a piece!). But since you will be close to Notre Dame, there is the cheese shop on rue Saint Louis-en-l'Ile that sells them too but I like Anne Marie Cantin's better. You could also try "Tentation de St. Felicien" that I would like to have now!!!
Don't forget "Un Dimanche a Paris". My daughter and her husband reported that their lunch there was superb! They will go again next time they are in Paris!. I think we will be doing that as I only bought chocolates and pastries - their macarons are also lovely.
bisous, Lilia
