Leaving Sat. lots of luggage as we need formal wear for the ship, have my carry-on and purse packed and D's checked bag with half my clothes and 1/2 his, also a shoulder bag for D filled and ready to go. Just my checked bag and a 19" carryon with evening clothes to go. David decided we would have some painting done while we are away so have been moving stuff from the famiylroom, which will get a complete overhaul and the wainscoating in hall and dining room. We have a very dependable man who I trust implicitly to do a good job and keep tabs on the house. Cat is provided for . Let's hope he does not get into another cat fight and has to make a trip to the vet. Once this week is enough! I am so ready. Will enjoy relaxing on ship for 6 days before the frenzy starts!

Have a wonderful time. As I age my memory becomes iffy. Which ship are you sailing on? We have been talking about future trips and seeing if we could actually avoid flying.

Jody, bon voyage! I'm excited for you! I have a girlfriend who refuses to fly. EVER. She's waiting to win the lottery so she can sail to Europe. I'd love to go that way sometime. Have fun and don't go overboard (sorry, couldn't resist )

Wow! You are going on a ship! That is great! When I went to eat at Chez Dumonet, I was too early but alas there was this darling old store named "Tea and Tattered Papers" just down a bit from Chez Dumonet...that sells used English book and I whiled some time away there. I chatted with the owner and told her that my husband is just not a traveler and also has a fear of flying! She said we should then travel by boat! She originates from Germany but fled with her family long ago when she was three months old as they were Jewish and Hitler was in power. Since then she became a teacher in the States (now retired and owns this shop). She has had a most interesting life traveling. She would take boats to destinies; once she took a boat (cargo) from Hong Kong ("we ate decent food with the crew") to ? (New Zealand?) . Anyway, it was most fun to talk with her but she encouraged me to travel via boat! I had never really thought of traveling by ship and will be most interested to hear of your experiences. As for my husband...I fear even a boat is not something he wants to try...sigh.

Yes the Queen Mary 2. It has taken me 50 years to convince David he will not get sea sick on a huge ship like that. It is not a little powerboat on rocky seas. It's our 50th anniversary so he could not refuse this time. I was surprised it was not much more than an economy plus flight and you get room and board for 6 nights. I had FF miles for the flight home. Did have to buy a few things for the formal nights. But got seperates and can wear them at home, well most of them. We have a shuttle from Southampton then 1 night in London before takig the Eurostar to Paris. Should be well rested and eady to hit the ground running!
