Hi All, We will be in Paris in early November staying the the 4th arr. Can anyone suggest some good restaurants in the area or in the surrounding areas? When I last went to Paris (a very long time ago) I must admit I was disappointed with the food. I am sure I just lucked out with where I ate but I don't want to repeat the experience. I should tell you that unfortunately I am a bit of a fussy eater and not particularly adventurous when it comes to food, i.e I can only eat meat that is well done. However that doesn't mean that I want to head to the nearest McDonalds..... All Suggestions will be welcome. I am looking forward to my visit!!! Thanks

Here's a few:
Robert et Louise--64, Rue Vieille du Temple, 01 42 78 55 89. Beef cooked on an open fire in the middle of the restaurant. Great reviews, high quality beef. Make reservations.
Le Marche—Pl. du Marche St. Catherine; nice spot for lunch
Relias de L’Isle—37 Rue St. Louis en I’lle—good food. Res. a must 01 46 34 72 34; Closed Mon & Tues; live piano music several nights a week, very reasonable prix fixe menu
A bit further, but not difficult to get to and worth it:
Le Reminet--01 44 07 04 24-- 3, rue des Grands-Degres (open 7 days a week)
Chez Josephine Dumonet—117 rue Cherche Midi (line 10 to Duroc) Tel: 01 45 48 52 40 Closed Sat & Sun

You're welcome. Another place I thought of that is good and reliable, no surprises...for those nights when you just don't want to guess what you can eat off the menu Relais de l'Entrecote--20 Rue Saint-Benoît, Opens @ 7pm, they don't take reservations, so if you're there at opening you get a table right away, otherwise the wait can be awhile. They serve one thing--slices of steak (with a delicious sauce) & frites (you also get bread, salad and a complimentary second helping of steak & frites). When you sit down they will ask you how you want your meat cooked, so just tell them "bien cuit". It used to be 23€, but maybe has gone up to 26€...can't remember for sure. They also have really yummy desserts--profiteroles, creme brulee, and lots of things I can't pronounce that are beautiful and delicious! I remember some kind of Vacherin that was a delicious, ornately layered raspberry confection with ice cream, whipped cream, meringue, etc. They have a restaurant just off the Champs Elysees also, at 13 rue Marbeuf, and one at 101 boulevard du Montparnasse.

I second all of annetes suggestion. We like the Le Bouquet St Paul, on the corner of rue st Antoine and rue St Paul. Geordy also ate there and she too liked it. Another left bank place we like and it is not hard to get to from the Marais is Bistrot de Paris on rue de Lille. There are several places on Place des Vosges that are very good, Le Bourgouin (sp) and I think the other place is called Carrette's . The name was just changed I thik I have that right. For Italian we like Del Papa on rue de Buci and Blvd St Germain. Pizza Momo on rue st Antoine is also very good

We aslo saw one at Porte Maillot,15, rue Marbeuf. On metro line one just round the corner from the metro station, so easy to get to. They were queuing outside the door on Saturday night, so we passed by and ate at the Moroccan place nearby, which had music on and was delicious. I also like Le Boquet St Paul. Once had a lovely lunch at Le Cotelettes on Impasse Guemedee, Just south Of Place de Vosges. Off Rue St Antoine, Denise love from England.

I like all of Annette's recommendations! I also like Cafe des Musees at 46, rue de Turrenne in the 4th, a few blocks from Place des Vosges. Order the Cochon(pork) and escargot as your starter! Yum!

Another you might like is Atelier Maitre Albert, in the Latin Quarter, just across from Notre Dame. They do their meat spit-roasted, so it's falling off the bone tender. www.ateliermaitrealbert.com/

I see Maitre Albert is now a Guy Savoy restaurant. david and I first went ther at least 20 years ago when it was owned by by anolder man and woman. He was the chef and you could see him from the tables. D and I started laughing because he was the twin of David's father. We thought Daddy might have been getting up to no good in 1914 when he was in France during WWI.
we have had some really good meals at Le Bouquinisteies ( Sp) on Qaui de Grand Augustin , also a Savoy restauran. And 2 other nearby on Rue Christine, Cez Fernand and Rotisserie d'un Face. Also Espadon Bleu (mainly fish ) on Rue de Grand Augustins at the corner of Rue Christine

I didn't know that Maitre Albert had a previous life, Jody. It's been a Guy Savoy property for at least 5 years. Live and learn

Thank you for all the suggestions - I have added them to my list.
I was wondering is there a good seafood restaurant in or around the 4th arr that someone can recommend?
My mum loves oysters...

Paris restaurants! My favorite topic!
If your mom loves oysters, take her to my absolute favorite: L'Huîtrier Restaurant, 16 Rue Saussier Leroy, 75017. Tel : 01 40 54 83 44
It's a pocket-size restaurant and it's always packed so make sure you call ahead to make a reservations. And although it's in the 17th, it's super easy to get there from the Marais - line 6, I believe. They also have other seafood dishes that are all terrific, too.
bon appétit! -Diane

So my trip is now well and truly over but I am contemplating returning to Paris in 2012!!!! I really appreciated the replies to my question and so wanted to let you know where we ended up going and what we thought of the restaurants: Le Dindon en Laisse - 18 rue beautreillis, 75004 My mum chose this restaurant based on its location as well as the good reviews on Trip Advisor. The food was really very good. Mum had the duck with vegetables and I had scallops with rice. Desert was a berry crumble straight out of the oven which we shared. It is a little out of the way but definitely worth the trip. Auberge de la Reine Blanche - 30 rue Saint-Louise En I'lle We looked at Relias de L’Isle but I didn't find anything on the menu that I would eat and so we ended up getting a reservation just down the road. We had onion soup, beef bourguignon and coq au vin and were not disappointed with any dish. Our waitress was lovely and was kind enough to help me with my attempts at french. Surprisingly the other waitress made it very obvious that she did not like me trying to speak French. I have always been told that the French appreciate it if you try to speak their language rather then assuming they can speak English but I guess there is always an exception!! Still overall we did have a good meal at this little restaurant...
