PD the rest of the trip was either at a local cafe or bakery, usually just a cafe creme and breakfast pastry(1 apiece! ) Except one PD at a new place on St Antoine since we had stayed in the area Chimere the waiters wear white caps. 7,50 for cafe, o.j., buttered tartine plus a little jar of jam, croissant. Sat outside people/Paris watching.
Exhibitions
Rembrandt and His Circle Drawings at Instit Neelandais 121 Rue Lille 7th Had read about this in a newsletter a bit before the trip. Having recently rented "Nightwatching" and "J'Accuse"(theorizing that the "Nightwatch" is about a murderous accusation)..both about Rembrandt and having seen the dark , little Rembrandt," Flight from Egypt" in Tours, this rounded out my recent exploration of the guy very nicely!
Orsay To see the In The Time of Oscar Wilde...gay 1890's exh. which opened while we were there. Extensive...some of the furniture and decorative/household objects seemed ahead of their time..more Deco/modern. Ad midst all the art featuring semi clad and nudes..a young woman walking thru in 4 or 5 inch leopard stilettos and the shortest , tightest possible(w/o being a thong ) black "jean" shorts! In the room we spotted her, must have been at least a dozen different languages/accents speaking, and all of a sudden a hush, whispers, stares, gaping mouths......She must have moved thru quickly because did not spy again!
Cafe lunches
Cafe Bonaparte Chicken/cheese/tomato tartine(yes I know ..more melted cheese!) broilly, cafe in brilliant sunshine.
Brass. Deux Palaces...after browsing Isle St. Louis. popped in here on Isle de Cite when it started to rain for an early lunch. Croque Madame(I know..but it was Friday and I had not had one of those yet.. ) Sipping Beaujolais watching rain from under the awning..and then it stopped for the rest of the day!
Nemrod Had wanted to eat here for some time but always passing it on way to/from some where else(Josephine Dumonet?) or all the terrasse tables are filled. So saw an opening and took it!
This was after aperatif kirs @ Croix-Rouge enjoying the soleil!
First full day in Paris so after all the heavy eating in Tours wanted a salade...deciding between the carte choices and then just ordered the special Salade Nemrod w/o asking what it was! A surprise! Melon, prosciutto, grapes, haricort vert, lettuce tomato. Very refreshing! Very cute, very round carafe of St. Nicolas(still thinking of Tours )
To be continued with remaining diners/treats/etc.....
