wonder if they'll be specially importing the snotty, holier-than-thou attitude they dole out free with every purchase at the Paris stores.
Bad enough that I avoid the place like the plague -- no way am I paying 2E each for tiny macarons, just to have a retail clerk look down her nose at me.
And that's after multiple visits, speaking French, having the correct change, and saying "s'il vous plait" and "merci", and even knowing what I wanted before it was my turn, so I didn't waste any of their precious time.
If visitors just can't live without that expensive little green bag, I'll wait out on the sidewalk for them.

Funny, I was about to add that I hope they don't have the same snotty attitude that the ladies at the Maison du Chocolat had at the NYC store when I visited. It was all they could do to lower themselves to actually wait on people.

I usually get mine at PH and always get smiles and good service - a free taste most of time when it is not so crowded. I even got one free Ispahan one time because I mentioned it is my favorite.....
Will try the ones on rue Saint Dominique across from Café Constant. Clotilde wrote about it a few years back and since we will be staying in the neighborhood, it will be a good time to taste theirs - looked yummy to me the last time I walked by.
As Kerouac suggested, one should try McDo as well because those are almost as good as Ladurée's. Being made in the same facility could be the reason why.

Yesterday was the day!! I had an early meeting out of the office and finished for the day earlier and in a different neighborhood than usual.. Decided to walk home via Madison Ave and made my first visit to Lauderee NYC! A line ! at about 3:30 on a Thurs. afternoon..how Paris like!!! Each little macaron sells for 2.70 USD! Since I had to wait in line....I got a box of eight..2 pistache, 2 caramel, 1 coconut, 1 praline, 1 cafe, and 1 chocolat. So far have had the two favs(the doubles obviously!) and this Am had the coco and cafe....heavenly!! As to the snoot factor..though I've never really encountered that in Paris except at the St Germain store when I was trying to get someone's attention to look at a scarf(they are too small anyway!) there were 4 people behind the counter..the 2 females were nice and friendly, the two guys, one of whom waited on me..less so. I asked for my first two..the favs , using the French pronunciation, I guess I ventured back to Anglais for the praline ???because he repeated with the French ..same with coconut....I was fine with cafe and chocolat! I did ask and they did say they have plans to open a tearoom "downtown"...that covers a lot of territory! Looking forward to devouring the rest of them soon!

It looks like Laduree is doing well in N.Y. if you had to wait in line, but macarons are always worth waiting for, right? Enjoy each bite, Geordy!

Yummy! I'll have to add this to my NYC list. I also never got to Amorino during my trip. Geordy, have you been there yet?

I've never come across the snooty attitude in any Laduree in Paris or in London for that matter, but the lady at Laduree Milan was extremely snooty. It can't be a language thing because I speak very little French while my Italian is fluent. $2.70 seems a lot for a small macaron although TBH I don't remember how much I paid in Paris. I have a vague idea the large ones were 3 Euros each in Milan.

No Mez..have not been to the Amorinos here yet..wonder what their prices are like? The location is quite a hike from my job to do at lunchtime...and haven't been to the Village on an off day since they opened...soon! Walking back to the hotel in Paris we discovered an Amorino cart outside the BHV store. This was the day I had the Nemrod salade for lunch and we were going to see Misha instead of diner so....a bit of gelato seemed in order..had a small cup of Pistache and Caramel(pattern here?) 3.50 E. And a nice place with terrasses and benches a short walk away to enjoy it! An Asian woman was giving free foot massages at one of the benches...we passed. Two young men were behind me in line at Lauderee on Thurs....not exactly Madison Ave types..and one is saying to the other "$2.70 for a little cookie???" and the other is explaining this is the first store in New York, the other keeps remarking as the cashier is rattling off very high tariffs to those paying. I was going to interject..but instead concentrated on what I was going to order,,but then the dubious one tapped me on the shoulder and said "Miss, are these cookies really all that?" I gave him my opinion, a bit of the recipie, plus the hype, while the other looked smuggly on. Mr Dubious said to him, "Well I guess you are right...for a change!" I did add that some found them too sweet, or just idn't care for them. I was asked my favorites and told that Mr Smug liked rose petal and lemon....as I was waiting to pay I heard them ordering..they got 24! and included my favs and Chocolat at Mr Dubious' insistence! ;D And it is just a storefront..just the little macarons, I saw a box of chocolates displayed but didn't see actual chocolates other than that, and the ice creams with the macaron on top. Also candles, vinyl and freezer bags(I guess for the ice cream) No pastries. Extra charge for the hard featured boxes....my eight came in the light green folding cardboard long box.

Hold on to your hats...the little macarons are $2.75 apiece at Maison du Chocolat here!! A nickel more than Lauderee! And I think they are a bit smaller! In the name of fairness I thought I should do a comparison as soon as possible so went to M du C earlier. Bought 3...Vanilla, Dark Chocolat(they have dark and milk) and caramel. Got home and ate the caramel..very good but cafe...not caramel. They only have about 8 flavors...Nod sort of goes to Lauderee so far. They also have a few flavors in large..didn't note price.

Thanks Mez! ;D In fairness...I had the vanilla and dark chocolat macaron last nite. The vanilla was filled..with choolat!!! OMG! And the dark chocolat..oh la la! Since they are Maison du Cocolat their macarons should perhaps not be compared to the others....their shells seem to be a little smaller and thinner and their focus is more on their specialty...the filling!!! Now...a few hours in Paris..a stop at Lauderee, G Mulot, P. Hermes..easily accomplished in the 6th ;D...purchase a few of the same flavors at all 3.... Should we include Fachon??

Talking about macarons. I stopped off at a tiny bakery in Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto, for a baguette and noticed macarons in the display case. "Aha" said I, a wee treat for Stella and bought 6. I carefully placed the bag on the floor behind the driver's seat and drove home. It as 40 degrees outside but I had the A/C cranked up and thought no more about it.
When I arrived, Stella had the coffee ready and I proudly showed her the bag and put my hand in to bring out the prized macarons. They had all melded into a warm mass and looked more like a chocolate, caramel tar with spiky bits in it which stuck to my fingers as I hauled half of the mess out of the bag while the other half stuck to the brown paper.
I suppose the moral to this cautionary tale is not to buy macarons in 40o degree temperatures and if you do, eat 'em yourself before they melt.

Oh Dear,,,,I feel your pain George! Since I had two of the Lauderee Caramel macarons I was going to save the 2nd one for last. But when I opened the box the next day part of the caramel filling had leaked out onto the box..so it had to be eaten immediately! (and most of the escaped filling was salvaged ;D ) BTW...Happy Thanksgiving!! It seems like only yesterday we were having the Canadian and USA Thanksgiving discussions!!! Hummm...autumnal colored macarons would be great on the Thanksgiving Day table!
