This may not seem like a Paris topic but we are a kindler gentiler web site right?
This is sort of for Sister Europe. There was a thread on the other site about gifts from the USA for French friends. Old Bay Seasoning came up.
Today I am using it in Crab Cakes made in honor of the Preakness, which although I am disappointed that there once again not be a Triple Crown winner, it was a "safe" race.
Not a dish one normally finds in Paris but they do have that delicious deviled crab or crab salad on some of the plats de fruit de mer!!

I brought Old Bay as a gift for AnneParis. I'm not sure if she has been brave enough to use it, though!

Whew, I guess I was too busy having a Preakness party - I missed the spammer too! Oh well...it was an exciting race, but I was also disappointed that there will be no triple crown. We didn't have any crabs or old bay at our party , though. Our French friend is here visiting and we had a good old fashioned cook-out. He's very happy that he's been able to enjoy his French's yellow mustard. Although we did have lots of wine and cheese, so maybe it was a cosmopolitan cookout?

Again I show my ignorance but can you explain what a "Preakness" is for me plz? Is it something to do with sports?

Andi, it's one of three horse races held fairly close together that together make up the "Triple Crown" (i.e., if the same horse wins all three it is a "Tripple Crown winner" -- which is pretty rare and very noteworthy when it happens so the horse can be very valuable for breeding purposes when it retires from racing). The other two are the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes.

Oh I see, thanks for that, my dad would have probably understood it, he's the horse racing fan. We get the Cheltenham gold cup, The Grand National and some others which are big races over here, but I don't really know a great deal about the subject.
