Janet, that is an excellent idea!! We are going in May with Sebastian, so I will stock up then. Geordy, the only marathon I can complete is an eating one, lol Thanks, guys, Jo Jo..for many years when my brother ran the marathon that is just what I had ..an eating Marathon! Folks over for Bagels and spreads, cheeses, chile con queso, deviled eggs and Champagne. Then after watching the lead runners go by..I'm half a block from the 17 mile mark...we'd come back and have beer, kielbasa, dips, quiches, chips, nuts, mozzarella, tomato, onion, and other goodies then head out to wait for my bro to pass by. Back for more food and booze..one year I had just been to Paris so the spread included duck breast, assorted pates, smoked salmon, etc.! Pick up bro and his medal in Central Park and back for more! And of course seasonal desserts! It was exhausting! And Annette. the crunchy bottom on the cake sounds fine to me! Mossie..what ever do you mean?

Just went to Massena (NY, just across the river from us) tonight and looked in vain for Speculoo spread. I knew we should have brought some back from Paris.........I think I'm in withdrawal, lol Jo I went over to Michigan today and was able to buy it at Meijer. I checked the Biscoff website to see which stores carried it. There is a $1.00 coupon on the website. Here is a link to see which stores carry it in your area. Curiosity killed the cat and I just had to get some while I was over there. Yes, I like it very much! www.biscoff.com/DirectionsWEB/webcart_static.php?file=static_retail.htmlParis...ahh

Well, it says PriceChopper for NY state, but there wasn't any at the Massena store. Guess we'll have to wait for the next time we get to Plattsburgh.
Thanks for the link!

....and oh, just wait til you try the crunchy version.... There's a crunchy version? Oh my! I was going to post the same thing! Then I looked at my jar and remembered ..I bought the crunchy one!! Since I have always preferred chunky peanut butter..and now adore Super Chunk!..I just gravitated toward the crunchy one! I'll be cracking it open over the weekend..and will probably go to Fairway and get the Biscoff spread(I think they just had the smooth)...for the ole comparison!

Speculoos spread concept started in Holland in the late 90’s however it gained its popularity in Belgium 2008 during a game show called “the Inventors” where a contestant displayed the idea of using the caramelized gingerbread cookie as a spread. With the growing popularity of this spread its success in Belgium and Holland, Matifoods decided to bring a truly authentic and original recipe of the spread to North America that the Europeans have come to love.

I just had it for lunch..half a sandwich on Arnold Health Nut Bread! I have the crunchy one...but unlike chunky peanut butter...which is smooth in between the chunks..this is crunchy all the way..almost a little "sandy?". Think I might prefer the regular......
Perhaps I'll pick up a jar of the smooth at Fairway this weekend

I still don't have a place to buy the Speculoos paste but for all us Canadians, I picked up a box of Speculoos biscuits at Freshco in Whitby On. They are made by a Dutch company called Hellema and advertises them as "The original Speculaas".They are just called Spiced Cookies and were $2.49 on special.

Ah George, when I saw you had posted on this thread, I thought you had found the infamous spread somewhere in Ontario!
I'm having crappy days at work these days, I just know that speculoo spread would make it all just a little bit better.

When I was in Paris, I saw speculoos at the local Monoprix. I remembered this thread, so I bought a jar but didn't open it until I got home. Um...I'm almost afraid to type this for fear of a backlash but...I'm not a huge fan I'm thinking it's too sweet.

You know, Anne, I can imagine the biscuits being quite good with a cup of tea. Just not a big spoonful of the paste right out of the jar. Almost threw me into a sugar coma.

When last we spoke she had not tried yet... Haven't hit the "crunchy" jar again since..also thought a bit sweet. Bought some thin chocolate cookies that I thought to spread with it at Thanksgiving...but everyone was full from our dinner out and barely ate the pumpkin pie I had so didn't try...sometime this month.perhaps...
