I am just curious to know if there are others on the forum who watch Le Tour De France? Even if your aren't obsessed a Tour fan it is a great way to see small lovely places in the French country side - of course not with the wonderful detail of Frenchmystique ;D

YES! I'm recording the daily three hour coverage and then I can pause when they show a beautiful chateau or an exciting part of the race and hurry through the not so exciting parts. I wish though that they would show a map of where each day's event is taking place.
Did you see that horrible big crash very close to the end of day one? OMG!!

Yay Darcy! I did see the crash and poor Contador - he's paid big for riding in the middle of the pack that day.
I have a map of France with me usually when I watch that I check against the stage map on the TDF website and then I circle places on it that I want to remember for future trips. Of course I first have to someday plan to actually leave Paris to see the rest of France and so far that hasn't happened!
I'm obsessed but it's okay - I work in the mental health field ;D ;D ;D

I am trying to stay up to watch it but I have been struggling this first week. Wimbledon nearly did me in and now I need a bit of a break. Coverage starts here after 10pm! YES! I'm recording the daily three hour coverage and then I can pause when they show a beautiful chateau or an exciting part of the race and hurry through the not so exciting parts. I wish though that they would show a map of where each day's event is taking place. Did you see that horrible big crash very close to the end of day one? OMG!! I never thought of recording it just to watch the "good bits" ie. the scenery. ;D

I wish we had the food tie in segments!
I don't have all the cable stations and the coverage on network TV here is not great. Usually just 30 mins or an hour re-capping the week on Sunday...then a slightly longer one on the last day.
When Lance was still winning one year they did do some more "local color" stuff but no more....just crashes, doping news, etc.
And I read yesterday that ESPN(cable) is buying NBC,s rights to Wimbledon!!!!! Whaaa!!!!

Geordy - I was so surprised to find how little it is covered in the States especially given the number of American riders and teams. I was in Vegas for a conference last year toward the end of the Tour and had to go to a sports bar to watch because it wasn't on any of the channel's in my room. So glad I had set the PVR before I left.

Believe it or not, I watch the Tour LESS now that I'm in France than I did in the US.
I used to watch it on Versus every morning -- and if I missed it in the morning, I caught the rebroadcast in the evenings.

I've been so busy riding my own bike I haven't had time to watch but I love watching it for the scenery too. Until my bike can fly I think they've got me beat on the aerial shots Belladonna.

Bruce: REMOTE CONTROL HELICOPTER!! Hey, that would have been handy for that Chateau you couldn't get into on your last report - I think I might be on to something here....

I hate to be the jaded one, but I would be willing to wager that the decrease in coverage of the Tour is directly related to Lance having retired last year without a clear heir to wear his crown.

Now that Lance is no longer around you should all follow me instead.

I think you're right Sunshine. Too bad for the 4 American teams who are all doing pretty well - such a difference from when 7-11 first joined the Tour.

SUnshine ? Jaded? Never! But non, nothing jaded about it...I said before that once Lance retired the first time the coverage went down. And then after the other American..whose name I forget won and was disqualified after flunking drug test....didn't help

I wish though that they would show a map of where each day's event is taking place. Darcy, you can check out the map for each stage on website for the tv channel that shows it here. This is stage 10 but you can just click on the stage number to get all the details. www.sbs.com.au/tdf2011/stages-map/index/currstage/1511We are lucky that we get to watch it every night on a free to air tv channel. In some ways this has been the worst tour I recall watching. There have been some terrible accidents and I have found myself averting my eyes so I can't see the carnage. Way too many accidents. I think anyone that finishes this year should be amply rewarded just for doing so!

Why are those cars allowed so close to the riders. That crash yesterday really messed up the Dutch rider. There are pisctures of his injuries and his bare bum in todays Daily Mail

The cyclist who ended up in the barbed wire is very gracious about the driver of that car and has basically said these things happen . I freely admit that I am not that big a person and would want my hands around the driver's neck. Geordy - Floyd Landis and he was also the first to throw Lance under the bus with doping allegations last year.
