I want to make a recommendation...for those of you who like Poilane bread especially. Just next door to the Poilane shop in the 6th is a place called La Cuisine de Bar. In the morning, they serve a great breakfast: a basket of toasted Poilane bread, croissants, wonderful jam and real French salted butter, plus a BOWL (yes a bowl, just like in French homes) of cafe (or the or chocolat). It is sooooo yummy.
At lunchtime they do "les tartines" (open face sandwiches) on the poilane bread. They are always phenomenal, and something different for Paris.
I got the recommendation from David Lebovitz, and now I pass it on to anyone who cares to take it! It's such a treat...

This sounds great - Poilane is a good substitute when I'm in Paris and start missing what seems to me to be "real" French bread (that is, really good sourdough). I will keep this in mind!

That's funny, Les. I remember Ina Garten (aka Barefoot Contessa) recommending this place in one of her shows for the tartines on Poilane bread for lunch. The breakfast sounds wonderful. Thank you!

You Bay Areanoids are so parochial about your bread. It's very endearing.

I love that...Bay Areanoids. It sounds like something you have removed when it starts giving you a pain.
