Do you guys participate in these programs? I was thinking of switching to United Airlines' program, simply because SFO is a hub.
Love to hear your thoughts on saving miles for Paris!

Hi Matt. Unless you travel alot it's tough to accumulate enough points to get a free flight. But even if you don't it's free to join, so why not.
I look for non-flight ways to earn points. A few years ago American Express had a deal where you could get a card free for the first year and 50,000 AMEX points, which I could transfer to my airline. It cost me $25 to do the transfer, so I basically got a flight to Paris for $25. They're expecting anyone who takes the card won't bother to cancel after a year.
I found it's more and more difficult on Continental (who merged with United) to get European flights for under 100,000 points. It can take awhile to accumulate that many points, but it doesn't cost you anything so I would join.

I charge everything on my Capital One visa card because I can use the points/miles for any airline.
