Along with the Cara Black mystery series set in Paris, I just found a non-fiction book that looks promising. It is going into my stockpile of books to take on vacation. Book is French by Heart: An American Family's Adventures in La Belle France by Rebecca Ramsey. This is a memoir of the Ramsey families four years in France, three kids, husband and aged cat. Seems like a good read.

Holger, that sounds like a fun read. Let us know if it's a good one. I've just received 2 new books that I am really enjoying. The first was a Mother's Day gift from one of my kids--"One Hundred & One Beautiful Small Towns in France" by Simonetta Greggio. I'm loving the photos and discriptions of these little jewels and am adding some of these places to my list for a time when we get to tour the country a little. The second is a cookbook that I forgot I had ordered! I'd preordered it way back... It's "Chocolate & Zucchini: Daily Adventures in a Parisian Kitchen". Someone on TA turned me on to the Chocolate & Zucchini food blog ( chocolateandzucchini.com/ ) and I have really enjoyed reading the site. So now the book is out, and it hasn't disappointed. She has a real conversational writing style, and this is the only cookbook I've ever felt compelled to read from cover to cover. Tried 2 of the recipes so far, and they've both been yummy! Her discriptions of shopping in the markets of Paris make me want to be there NOW!

Annettecina, I will try to get the book on the towns. Perhaps we will be near some of them.
Cybee, I am as mystified as you. Love the cat. But someone else put it there. Probably wanted to stop my whining about being so technologically challenged.

Holger, that's funny about your avatar! ;D Glad you got some help. About the "101" book, it's not something you'll want to pack to take along--more of a coffetable book. It includes a very basic map to let you know approximately where the towns are in France (no roads shown, tho!). I wish it had details as to how to reach each town. Guess we'll be needing a decent road map when we head out to find them. I've seen a few of the places mentioned on TA (Fontainebleau, Chantilly, Chartres, Amboise), and have visited a few (Aix en Provence, Cannes), but most of them are new names for me (Cahors, Conques, Rocamadour, Sablé sur-Sarthe, etc., etc.)

What a pretty girl - is she anything like her mommy ?? So I will know what to look for next summer, when we shall have our balcony party with Shoesy !! I can see it is in front of the Medici fountain in Jardin du Luxembourg - so they FINALLY took that ugly concrete nose out of the water !!! It was some kind of modern art-thing: a big nose sticking out of the water. It was horrible - but now it's gone. Good riddens !

Yes, that is my darling daughter..and people say we look alike..but I think she has her father's eyes . etc.. more! So hmm....I will have to wear something special (a powdered wig and ecco sandals? ) so you can identify me when we meet for our grand gathering with Shoesy! Yes, GitteK! YOu have the right location (Medici Fountain/Garden Luxembourg)! Oh, my goodness that there was a nose in the water...wrecking the beauty of the place? Modern art stuck in for no apparent good reason there? I can't even imagine ! That would surely have detracted so from its beauty! Interesting though!

When I looked at the picture, the first thing I thought was that she looks Parisian as well. Andi, I LOVE YOUR AVATAR! That is a scream! Oh I wish I was smart enough to have a cool avatar...pretty soon the cool kids won't want to be seen with me.

Oh, yes, she was living in France last winter/spring (student) and even before, she had that look and was told by others prior that she would blend in well in France due to her style of dress/ etc.. She MAY live in France next winter/spring too..and if so! Well, that is what I am kind of waiting on before I make my plans so I can arrange them around hers!
