I know many of you rather enjoy the Pompiers of Paris Thought I'd fill you in on a little tidbit I picked up last month. The firemen at the station around the corner from our apartment are a very friendly bunch (located just southwest of the intersection of rue du Cardinal Lemoine & rue Monge). My son is a part-time fireman, so he had an interest in visiting the station one morning while we were there and took them some t-shirts from our city fire department. They gave him a shirt in return, along with a tour of the station. They had him try on their gear and insisted on taking his photo. They also invited him to come train with them any morning (okay, it didn't dawn on me before, but now I'm starting to wonder what their motive was! LOL). Anyway, here's the tip: they run every morning between 8 and 9. If you situate yourself on the terrace at Le Petit Cardinal, I imagine you'd have a pretty good view. Sorry my son didn't get any photos with the pompiers! I almost leaned over my balcony one morning as they ran past to shot a few pics, but it would have been way to obvious! LOL Here are couple pics (my son in the first one, and I hope the second is the only glimpse of the inside of a Parisian ambulance any of us ever see!):

Don't you think they would have hammed it up for you if they saw you snapping shots of them? Thanks for the inside scoop!

Annette, I got the funniest mental picture of you leaning over your balcony to snap a picture of the cute pompiers, and falling off. Talk about an embarrassing moment...

Yeah, that would be just my luck. But at least I'd have some cute guys to attend me in my misery

Annette
Anyone who is a pompier, part time or full time, is usually a special person, so you son must be as well (and good looking to boot). Nice for your son to be able to visit and check out pompiers in another country. I have a pompier story as well, if I ever get around to posting in the who's who. (very tardy). When we visited Paris, we noticed that the pompiers there had the top of the line helmet. How lucky for you to be on the "run route". ;D

Thanks! I think he's pretty handsome and special, but then I'm biased... Paris...ahh--we'd love to hear the story--do share! I will get to a trip report/summary before long. I finally got photos from my daughter and son, who took pics of things I didn't this time around, so armed with those I will be able to put together a better report!

Oh, here's something else Adam learned from the pompiers on his visit: they have a contest every morning during their training where each pompier suits up in full gear and tries to pull himself up onto a platform about 6 feet off the ground. Whoever can do it gets to ride inside the engine that day. Don't know if that is a city-wide thing, or just amongst the guys in the 5th, but I thought it was interesting! It's not done by seniority as it is here.
