Well, I have always said that August in Paris is not so bad,, yes , it can be hot,, but I find hotels often have deals.
BUT, now that I have been on this board, populated with those of you well aquainted with good places to eat, not too touristy, and not too pricey,, well, I am depressed!!!!!!! So many of your wonderful suggestions are closed in August .. this no doubt being the direct result of all your collective "insider knowledge" that leads you to delightful, but often smaller or family run eateries, which , of course, close for holidays.
The Reminant is closed for my trip. Les Olivides is closed for my trip..
Help,, anyone have ideas of places that may be open for August, yet not huge chain restos,, I will google away, no links needed..
Please help, or I may have to live on bread and wine.. ok., so that is not so bad,, lOL

One of our favorites is Chez Fernand at 9 rue Christine,75006. It's open everyday for lunch and dinner

THANK YOU Demarais,, I foudn the hotel, it is very close to where we are staying on Rue Dauphin, and it is OPEN! It looks like a nice place for our first dinner!! It does say it need reservation,,, but what is your assessment of that, do you think we could wait till the day we arive( around lunch time) and we could just pop in and make a reservation in person for dinner? I could phone( the web site says it does not take online reservatons) and most likely they would understand my grunting french, but if that comedy could be avoided,, LOL I would be more at ease!
Thanks again..

They used to take online reservations, pooh! We have often stopped in at lunch time and made dinner reservations. There will be someone that speaks English there so don't worry about that.
We prefer the back room to the front part and if they have the endive and roquefort tartin for a starter you are in for a treat!

Demarais - wow, now that's a great bit of information! Joan, I think you have a dinner place (maybe if you really like it, you can be a temporary "regular" and get the benefits of being recognized when you return - no need to explain that it's because the other places you wanted to eat are closed!)
