Good morning! I thought I'd start a "patisserie pilgrimage" thread. Or specialty shop, brioche boutique... anything that isn't a restaurant. What do you seek out? Where is it? Do you cross town to get it when you are traveling? To get us started, here are a few of mine: Gerard Mulot 76 Rue de Seine, in the 6th. I was clued in when I took my Dad to Paris in 2009. Cinnamon-orange macarons (cannelle-orange) are my favorite although I'm not picky, I'll try several. I also bought a variety of their spicy chocolates and of course numerous croissants and pains au chocolats. Dad and I would take our loot and sit in the Luxembourg Gardens on a bench and watch the people wander by while we ate. When Mom and I went back barely 6 weeks later (late July) it had already closed for the summer vacation. Angelina's 226 Rue de Rivoli, in the 1st. This isn't a secret find by any means. I had their very-rich-and-thick and chocolate drink one time and it still sets the bar. It is served with a brioche, if I recall correctly, because it is so rich. I recently read about Rue Montorgueil on David Lebovitz's blog so I may head over there this time. A very long time ago I visited Les Halles but I don't remember much about the area. Let's hear more! Anything food related - specialty stores, wine shops, you name it. I thought this would be a fun thread and bonus - I'm leaving in a week so I can look some of them up,

2 of my favorites are in the 6th.
Huilerie de Blanc on rue Jacob with all kinds of oils, for cooking, scenting and beauty!
Oliviers & Co, there are several but I usually go to the one on Rue de Buci. Allsorts of great olive oil products . Last trip I bought a lot of gifts made from Olivewood, salad servers, cheese knives salad palted
And I always stop at the Salt man at the Richard Lenoir market. He has all kinds of flavored salts and a great selection of different fleur de sels!
La Derniere Goute, wine shop often has tastings and is a fun place to visit and learn about wines 6 Rue Bourbon-le-Château

Oh yes, Oliviers & Co. is great, too! Their oils are wonderful, as are their flavored balsamic vinegars (I love the cherry balsamic, and the white honey ginger!) They also have shops on rue Saint-Louis en I'lle and at the bottom of rue Mouffetard.

Jody, in December and January, there are a number of ways to get the crowns and feves --
Croustipate has, in the refrigerated cases, a Mon Kit Galette des Rois -- two rolls of pastry and a package of frangipane mix in a box with a crown and a feve - about 5E, if I recall.
Herta (the French equivalent to Pillsbury) sells two packages of pate feuillete all wrapped up with a crown and a feve...and their filling recipe (inside the package) is delicious. The feves are incredibly lame, unfortunately - an unidentifiable flat piece of molded white porcelain. Around 2E on special, 2,50 if not.
Vahine (baking supplies - think Betty Crocker) sells packages of either frangipane mix (just add water) or ground almonds (for making the filling -- see above) -- and those come packaged with a feve and a crown, as well. Vahine's are much nicer - three-dimensional painted porcelain - this year's collections include Dora the Explorer, Jimmy Neutron, and something else I can't remember. I paid 3,29 for a package of frangipane mix with a Snoopy feve this year.
This summer I intend to buy a handful of feves at any of the brocantes we haunt in the area - they're usually anywhere from 2 to 10 for a euro. (then I'll have to figure out where to buy the crowns!)

skywalkerbeth - add a Mont Blanc from Angelina's. If you go to rue Montorgueil, try G. Detou – 58, rue Tiquetonne 2eme for baking supplies, fine goods, chocolates, mustards, fine canned items, etc.
Annette - thank you for posting plie au chocolat. I'll try it soon! Have you tasted Kayser's assorted petits financiers? I always carry a sack on the plane and another for my daughter.
Jody - I love the hazelnut oil from Huilerie Blanc. It adds a different dimension to my vinaigrette!
For jams (Christine Ferber), sel de guerande, sel de Noirmoutier (for my son - he went to class verte there), sel rose d'Himalaya (for me), some Bordier butter (my current favorite is the one with Yuzu), I go to Le Bon Marché Grande Epicerie and Lafayette Gourmet on 40 blvd Hausmann.
The whole rue du Bac is one of my favorite streets (an old narrow street with little shops), wine shop (Ryst Duyperon will even personalize your bottle and they have some old armagnacs), stationaries, silk place run by a Chinese couple .
My favorite pastry shops and chocolates are for another post......

The Raspail market to order a truffle ever Jan. and I always get a potato galette while I'm there. Mostly, I don't have to cross town because there is something exceptional in every 'hood. In my area; on the rue Lourmel, just off boul Grenelle, there is Laurent Dubois, an exceptional fromagerie and an amazing Alsacian bakery and a fantastic rotisserie. A bit up the street we have Secco and Poilane bakeries. Plus the Motte Picquet market on Sundays. My fruit stand there imports the world's best oranges from Sicily. And my fruit stand on the rue du Commerce has Majool dates.

The verger across from our apt in the Marais had the best melons I've ever tasted. Don't know where they were from but we bought one everyday for breakfast. I never did tell David they cost abut 6 Euro each!

I agree with Jody's suggestion. I went to the tasting at Dernier Gout and The Mulot bakery was around the corner from the apartment my friends and I rented so that was a daily stop. I love G'Detou, a fabulous food shop at 58 ru tiqetonne in the 2nd. A special place to by things for friends who love to cook, All kinds of chocolates for baking, exotic teas, dried mushrooms, all sorts of honey, fruits in jars sardines, allthings from various parts of fFrance. My other favorite is the Boutique Maille, Pl de Madelaine. I bought exotic flavored mustards in small jars to bring back as presents, If you buy one of their colorful croques and are lucky to visit Paris often, they will refill it for you from the mustards on tap.

Framboise. Ryst Duperon, I wrote about it on a trip report on Fodors. I went there for an Armagnac tasting as my friend's husband and I share our love for the drink. I bought a bottle on my anniversary date and an attractive bottle of prunes in Armagnac which is their specialty. I fell in love with their dog.

Mimi, that's what we did, too! We have to go back there next week. Tom loves a good Armagnac and it will warm us up during the cold winter days which is predicted but luckilly, not like last December!

Gerard Mulot hates me! What other explanation? Last September had a reservation with Meet the French for their tour , demo, TASTING,GOODIE BAG!!!!!...we got there ..it was canceled! Found out later the guide was sick and they had sent an email after I was already in Paris. So ...made a reservation for this trip. Got an e-mail yesterday due to the "Chefs Holiday" canceled again!!! I've been wanting to do this since Annette went a million years ago! And I know others have done it. This time and September were the first times it worked with our dates since then. Boo!

You're kidding--what are the chances?!! I'm sorry, Geordy! Have you done the bakery tour at Grand Richelieu? No macarons or chocolates, but you get a 6" hunk of baguette fresh out of the oven

Yes Annette we did the Bakery....in lieu of GM because it fit our dates a few yrs. back. Enjoyed it very much! Which is another reason wanted to do another! They offer other bakeries now too but not at times for us ..there is a "deli" tour much later the same day we were supposed to do GM but it is our last day and we have dinner reservations so declined that. One of these days......

Boo Hoo, Geordy -I can't believe you will miss Gerard Mulot again! I did that tour, as well as Grand Richielieu in July, both were very good! And Truffaut, Boo Hoo again, Le Pamphlet is no more, for about a month now...owners retired. I really enjoyed that place and always tried to hit it when I was in town. PS I know you have an entire separate thread, but good luck with all of your reno!
