Many of you may have heard of Astier, a restaurant in the 10th. It is justifiably famous for its cheese platter, of which I will someday post a photo. I was just there a couple of weeks ago with Luckyluc and G.
Anyway, I've just learned that through the end of August, Astier will prepare a picnic basket that you may pick up and take wherever you like for a gourmet picnic. The cost is 40 euros per person (minimum 2/maximum 10) and there is a 120 euro security deposit on the picnic basket and equipment. You must order the "Pique-nique Astier" at least one day ahead of time at 01.43.57.16.35, and you have to pick up the basket at the restaurant.
The menu includes: Fresh tomatoes in tomato sauce Rabbit terrine with dried fruits Crisp beans with corander and tarragon Lamb with a green vegetable terrine Egglant rolls with cod cream Crudités Cheese platter Blanc-manger with red fruits Bottle of Chinon Rosé

Thanks...I'll put that in my "To do Paris." It sounds delicious.

What a great idea - it would be fun to pick up the basket and then head to a place like Chantilly to picnic on the enormous grounds around the chateau.

Yes Becky a great idea. And other great place to have a picnic would be les Buttes-Chaumonts in the 20ème. Astier is definetely a place to remember, let hope the gourmet picnic is a success so they can expand it behond August.
