Hello
I've checked the reviews but was hoping for... what? A push?
Story: two nights flyover to Paris, primarily for Claude Monet exhibit at the Grand Palais. I'd also like to hit the soldes. And Gerard Mulot.
Grands Hommes, Deux Continents, and Degres de Notre Dame are available if I hurry.
The GH is a known quantity, I love it. 410E for the wkd (two nights total cost).
Deux Continents would be 335 total for the wkd.
Degres de Notre Dame would be 340 total for the wkd.
GH looks the nicest of the three, and to be honest I kind of prefer that location over Notre Dame (but tell me differently if you think so, please!). I have also stayed at Agora St Germain before, and I think they are free. Nothing wrong with that location either but somehow I don't recall as many clothing boutiques in the area.
I had actually hoped to be closer to the 6th this time b/c I usually stay in the 5th and the reason for this visit is the Monet exhibit, primarily... I like to walk and it's a little closer. Also plan to shop the soldes. I think GH is better located for that than the Notre Dame (yes/no?) I'd be quite near Lux Gardens, Gerard Mulot, shopping... with Notre Dame I'd have to walk through the touristy part of the 5th...
Deux Continents would be better located yet, but, it's low on the list of desirables on TA. Not bad, just not as highly rated. I'm thinking mostly "fall outside and hit shopping, cafes, etc".
Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with any of these hotels, but just had to comment on how exciting it is that you booked a spur-of-the-moment weekend trip to Paris! Congrats! ;D

I have not stayed at any of them but they are really all so close..I don't think the exact location matters that much. My latest criteria is proximity to the Seine for frequent crossings!! (when staying in the #'s that border) I'd chose based on what you are getting...and want..for the price and tried and true is great but so is new and exciting! (if it turns out that way : What a dilemma! I too congratulate and will exalt you (I used my exalt for the day already )for crossing the pond for a weekend!

Well at the DC you certainly can fall out and shop! Lots of great shops along Rue Jacob , and several major fashion houses, Dior for one, on the intersecting streets. We've stayed in every hotel along Rue Jacob and love the area for it's convenience.
Degres de Notre Dame, I think that is where Mary Connelly always stays. Is it really near Le Reminet?
Just checked the Degres website, yes it is across the street from Le Reminet. It is suppose to have a really good restaurant. A bit of a walk for shopping though, but the buses run right along the Quais so no problem getting around

I noticed there isa Heinrich Kuhn exhibit at L'Orangerie. He was one of the great photographers of the 20th century and knowing how you like photo taking , you ight want to out it on your list!
I addition to the deNittis exhibit at the Petit Palais that Mel and I mentioned to you, they also were exhibiting photos from Reporters without Borders, mostly from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sandy has stayed at the Degres a number of times and was obviously very satisfied there.

I'm not familiar with the first two hotels you mention but I have personally stayed at the Degres a number of times - it's my favorite place to stay! Not fancy at all but very charming! My little "home away from home"!

Hi all
I finally just decided to go with what I know. Boring, I know. I was just surprised at how many places were either full, or, spendy! I really expected to pay 125E max for winter, even at the Grands Hommes.
The Grands Hommes is 70E more expensive for the wkd, but, it's a short trip and a known quantity and I like the neighborhood.
I know that Degres is in a nice neighborhood, but I probably will spend more time wandering the 6th and on to the Museums and with the GH I am already partway there. I like to walk on vacation unless it's wayyyyy too cold of course.
Thank you for the replies!
