I will be the first to admit that I am slack on Trip Reports, I dine where it is convenient ( and yes that can be McD's) so I am not really the person to be writing about food BUT I just had to burst into print on this . If it prompts me to do a TR (of sorts) you know its gotta be worth sharing.

I spent the weekend with my friend Cathy in her shop in Rue Charlot - she had been telling me for ages about the amazing chocolate and pastry shop opposite her - and although my somewhat rotund shape may prove otherwise I am not really a cake or chocolate person so I had never even ventured in the door nor even really looked in the window.

After rushing out in the freezing and pouring rain Sunday looking for a bite to eat and bring back to the shop ( and not having much luck other than Subway !!!!!!!!!!!!) I was feeling a little dissatisfied sooooooooooooo I just peered into the window of Jacques little store and was surprised to see that there was a dining area which the good and gentile folk of Paris were occupying . This intrigued me as I had understood it only to be a chocolate shop. I then saw out of the corner of my eye lots and lots of caramels - my fave.

I ventured in - OMG OMG OMG OMG - what a delight, I was absolutely blown away by THE most amazing things to eat I have ever ever seen in my life - I present to you the Caramel Eclair



Excuse the blur - I was reluctant to stop it moving towards my mouth to have a photo taken - it was honestly that good . If you love caramel - this my friends is the creme de la creme of caramel . It was full of absolute goodness - in fact it was The taste of heaven . It was oozing everywhere - I have dreamt of nothing else ever since.

My goal for 2011 is to eat my way through everything he has in his shop and then start again . . I urge you to go there, if you are in Paris now put down whatever you are doing and head there now, if you are anywhere else book a flight. Heaven is closer to me that I ever thought!

I usually go there for some caramels when I'm in Paris (not this last time...sigh...), but I will definitely try a caramel eclair next time Megan! Research, you know

We loved our visit to Jacques Genin last May (where we met the Laidbacks by happenstance). We enjoyed tea and coffee with a chocolate degustation and then bought some really expensive caramels:

Although our apartment was on rue de Turenne this year, we never got back to Jacques Genin ~ definitely our loss. That caramel eclair looks to die for!

its devine - I had not taken my wallet so thank goodness I only had eclairs as I had ten euro in my pocket. That would have been tad emarrasing as I don't know whether I could have stopped at 8. 35 euro !

It has been on my list for some time too..and I could also kick myself because we were right in the area twice back in Sept....though in my defense it was after a big lunch each time!

Next trip will probably be staying in the marais or just across the river in the 5th...so it will be a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caramel has risen to the tops of my taste sensations in the last few years!

I have yet to visit Jacques Genin, so I can't compare it with anything.

While not caramels, I am intrigued enough to try to visit both!

I had his caramels a few years before when he sold out of his home. He sold his caramels to a friends hotel, and that is how I was introduced to his yummy treats. Later we visited his amazing new shop where you can climb upstairs and see the sweets being made.

Just got my PC back from the "hospital"
