I may have one night in Paris in September. I'd like to stay near the Gare de Lyon since I'll take a train from there to Montpellier.
I found the Hotel Jules Cesar and Hotel Helvetia, both at 70 euros.
Does anyone have perspective on these hotels, or any other recommendations? I'm just looking for clean, safe, and reasonably comfortable. And also a bathroom in the room.
Thanks!

I googled them and Hotel Helvetia seems to have much better reviews than Hotel Jules Cesar.

Just reporting back that I ended up at the Helvetia. 70 euros for a single. It was exactly as described. The room had a small wardrobe, a small desk and a single bed. The shower was tight but had plenty of hot water. Free wifi. Staff was friendly. It's within a block of Gare de Lyon so was very convenient for taking the train the next day.
I was on the first floor and there's a bar next door. I could hear music early in the evening, but when I came back around midnight all was quiet.
I was only in Paris for just over 24 hours. I'll do a brief trip report when I get home.

There are two Ibis hotels near Gare de Lyon which are Ibis Gare de Lyon, Diderot, good and inexpensive.

Hi, I will be in paris for a 2 days business trip, and i will have my meetings in the district of Opera, i looked on the map and it seems it's downtown. I've looking for an accommodation and i don't care too much about the prices, my company is taking charge of it. i've made some research and i found www.hotel-in-paris.com/ and hotel.twenga.co.uk/, they are quite nice, but does anyone have stayed in an hotel close to it? i prefer to have impressions from former guests of hotels! thanks a lot for your help! cheers!

HI Kirstie and welcome aboard!
Can't say I've ever stayed in the 9th ( Opera District).Transpsortation is so good in Paris you do not have to limit yourself to that area.
Before staying in apts. we liked the hotels in the 6th, du Danube, Deux Continents, D'Angleterre, Verneuil, MIllesime, des Marroniers and Bon Ami. I would not hesitate to recommend any of them. You'll also find the left bank a bit more "social" in the evenings.
YOur links do not work by the way!

Hi Friends, I am from Alaska and soon traveling there for my business deal.. I am also looking forward to stay there for a week to explore the place.. I was wondering to know about the best accommodation over there which is safe for me and also where the fast food is easily available in the near by area.. Do you have any idea regarding it? __________________________ You must visit the link for amazing : Villa Holidays and Villa Holidays With Flights .

There really is no reason to stay near Gare de Lyon as transportation in Paris is fantastic, metro and buses everywhere. It is not a very interesting area, IMO .For a budget accommodation I like the Familia hotel on rue des ecoles in the 5th. It is walking distance to the Seine and Notre Dame and many other places if you are a better walker than me!
Breakfast and free Internet is included in the rate. There are many places to eat nearby including one of Roneice's favorite cafes!
Just noticed this is on a post from Sandy who wanted to stay near le Gare, n. Ashley didn't mention that area specifically!
