What is everyone planning for le quatorze juillet? We are brushing up on the words of La Marseillaise. Have you ever stopped to consider what an incredibly bloodthirsty anthem it is? Did you know that there are six more verses, each one more violent than the last? Whew! We wrote about it on our blog: awomansparis.wordpress.com/I guess it helps to work up a good appetite for all the feasting that is planned for the day! Philippa

Love you blog! Just added it to my favorites. Can't say I know all 6 verses but I do know at least 2 and I did know the bloody translation. No wonder the de Marais' left quickly after one of theirs got the blade!!
We are going to a Bastille Day dinner at Alliance Francaise , with lots of food, wine and music. Only thing I'll miss are the Pompiers!!!

We'll be here in Paris celebrating my niece's Sweet 16. We are definitely set on the 13th to see the Pompiers at the Ball in the Marais, one of the best, I've been assured! Bastille Day night we're taking in the fireworks from George's at the Pompidou. It's been a great trip so far for her. We haven't forced her into too many museums. We took in the YSL fashion exhibit, and ones at the Musee Arts Decoratifs and the Italian Cultural Center. Last night we went to Cafe L'Homme for a special birthday meal, the World Cup Soccer Final was broadcast from in front of the Tower. That, and the wonderful Tower view itself, (caught the twinkling twice) capped a great birthday outing for us all!!

Wow, Travelluver ! Just the thought of turning 16 sounds appealing to me, but celebrating it in Paris in such style as you described seems too exciting for my little old imagination to absorb.

Thanks Jody & Shoesy, We are having a blast!! We took in the Louvre, and Orsay, the only two museums my niece would let us in once she realized the Paris soldes were on!! We took in the YSL fashion exhibit as well as one at the Arts Decoratifs museum and the Italian Cultural Institute (this one was small but quite nice). We have the cooking class at Nomiya tomorrow, and tours of Gerard Mulot and the Grand Richelieu for later in the week (thanks Gitte for those tips!). I will need a vacation after all this vacationing!
