I've used them forLondon and when you tell the receptionist it's a toptable reservation they automatically do your bill with the discount.

Looks good. There is one in Passage Jouffrey that seems interesting in terms of decor and menu. Will see what write ups indicate.

Jody, do you mean you call the restaurant to confirm and talk with the receptionist? Or when you show up at the restaurant, you tell the receptionist? Or can you just tell your waiter?

When you show up at the restaurant tell the person seating you that yo have a toptable reservation!

Okay, that's easy enough! Thanks. I think we might try this out in Sept/Oct.

Used to love Top Table, but they no longer have Paris restaurant booking :-( I've seen the website for la fourchette, but it doesn't have any of the restaurants I want to book and not sure how reliable it is. Will book l'ambassade d'auvergne and Brasserie Balzar online, but guess I will have to call to reserve the others. The phone rings in Paris, and I start to get nervous...I always manage, though :-)

Sandy, we've been using Lafourchette for quite awhile now, and have never had any problems with our reservations or anything. But you're right, not all the restaurants we want to go to are on there, so we have to call. I know that nervous feeling when the phone rings thru...

I've used Lafourchette at times and have been happy, but you have to be careful. Best way to go is Paris Chowhound...search Paris on a budget.

Thanks, Annette and Sister Europe! Glad to know La Fourchette works...I tried one booking site for Rotisserie Beaujolais a few years ago, and just to be on the safe side, I called to see if they had a reservation for me, and they didn't. Couldn't remember if it was La Fourchette. Annette, glad I'm not the only one who feels nervous when the phone rings in Paris :-)

I used www.toptable several times and loved it! I booked Le Perraudin through them, as well as Bistro de Breteuil. However, I just went to their website to see if they'd gone back to offering Paris restaurants, but no, when you click on France, it takes you to Open Table. I love Open Table and use it all the time, but not for France. They only have 3 restaurants I've never heard of, and they're way above our budget! Sandy

Sandy, a nice thing about using LaFourchette is they send you a confirmation. Once I booked just a few hours before we wanted to eat, and didn't get a confirmation before it was time to go. I figured we cut it too close, so we ate somewhere else.

I think the best idea when you are on budget is staying in a hostel and take breakfast there, I think Greek sandwich shops are cheap and you can get a supper dinner which included meat, rice, salad and fries in very cheap rates.
