Hello all!
I just returned from my stay in Paris in a fabulous little apartment and wanted to post the report I promised before I forgot! Here is the link to the apartment: www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p653120a
Fabulously clean, brand new everything, one block from Notre Dame but overlooks the non-tourist streets- view of towers from balacony as well as the spire from St. Chappel, view of Seine from kitchen balcony. Beds are super comfy, even the futon was a premium mattress. Iron, ironing board, washer and dryer, nice little fridge, coffee pot, umbrellas, an adapter, a stove (the flat electric kind) well stocked kitchen, all soaps, toilet paper and cleaning supplies were included. Free wifi, free phone calls to anywhere in the US and EU, cable TV (though we never used it) quiet apartment, nicely decorated in a modern style, shower was fabulous, bathroom was large by European standards, as was the apartment space, but not quite as large as it looked in the pictures- though the pictures are VERY accurate as far as the decorations and layout of the apartment go). Only downfall is the 6 flights of spiral stairs, so if you go don't bring heavy large bags like we did! He also has apartments on lower levels.
Another bonus, down on the street level are several souvenir shops so if you need that stuff you don't have to drag it all over paris with you.
Small market open down the side street until very late at night. Street behind the apartment has a great wine shop/restaurant and the owner is very kind and helpful. Bakery like 4 doors from the main door and has great bread, less than 3 minute walk to Ile St. Louis, Cite' metro stop, Marche Aux Fleurs, Chatelet Metro and St. Michelle Place and Metro/Trains. Excellent restaurants in 5 min walk to Marais, fabulous cabaret Aux Trois Maillets 5 minutes into the Latin Quarter (very pricey though and they don't tell you about the 20 Euro entrance fee until you pay for your drinks! But it was worth every pennny!!)
Though it was very busy in that area on the holiday Whit Monday, the rest of the time the busy tourists stayed up by Notre Dame and there wasn't that much going on at this end of the street. The restaurant directly behind the apartment on Rue Ursins was AWFUL- instant broth and onions in the onion soup, frozen quiche, nasty waitress, so avoid it at all costs. You will know which one it is because the tables are on a very slanted sidewalk.
If you need any restaurant ideas in this area, message me because we wrote them all down and had some FABULOUS meals there!
