From France on Your Own: (thanks, Jody) Renovations at Musée d'Orsay / Two Major Exhibitions head west - Starting in November 2009, Musée d’Orsay began a partial renovation and re-installation to prepare for its 25th Anniversary in 2011. Two major exhibitions will head to the U.S. in 2010: Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay and Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond: Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay. San Francisco's de Young Museum will be the only museum in the world to host both exhibitions. Each exhibition will include approximately 100 paintings from the Musée d'Orsay's permanent collection and highlights the work of nearly 40 artists including Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Rousseau, Seurat, Sisley, Toulouse-Lautrec, van Gogh and Vuillard. The Musée d'Orsay will remain open during the renovations, despite the absence of several hundred key pieces of art. www.musee-orsay.fr / www.deyoungmuseum.org

Darcy,
The exhibitions are here now - started on May 22 and will be here until sometime in September. I haven't been to see it yet - still waiting for Eloise to decide when she wants to go; then I can reserve a date and time for us to go. She'll probably want to go to lunch afterwards.
We are indeed quite lucky here in San Francisco to land these exhibits. I know that they had a convoluted way to ship the artwork (they were marked as something else and they were unpacked as soon as they arrived here in our beautiful city). It didn't help that we were having problems with the flights from Europe because of the ashes from the unpronounceable volcano from Iceland.
bisous,
Lilia

Anne and I were pleased to see the first exhibit here in Sasn Francisco and plan to see the second one. It was located in Golden Gate Park at the new de Young Museum. It was extremely well presented.
